Ander snorts and doesn’t bother looking at me as I shoot daggers into the side of his face with my eyes. I don’t actually need to use the phone, but I don’t want him using it right now. He just got here. He doesn’t have any right to anything in this room. My room.

“Look, my asshole roommate needs the phone,” Ander mocks into the speaker. “If anyone is there, now is your time to speak.”

My jaw tics and I’m ready to pound his fucking head against the desk until his skull splinters. I suck in a deep breath, willing myself to calm down. I can’t be acting like this, not if I want to get out of here without ending up back in jail.

Grabbing my sneakers, I slip my feet into them and violently grab my hoodie from my dresser, knocking some of my belongings onto the floor. I don’t bother picking them up as I pull the sweatshirt over my head and leave the room, slamming the door shut behind me.

I’m still fucking pissed, but I’m pleased with myself as I head to the nurses’ station, looking for something to help take the edge off. For once, instead of letting my rage consume me and choosing violence, I walked away.

The nurse that sits at their desk takes one look at me and quickly types something into her computer. She glances up at me, a knowing look on her face. “Do you want something to smoke or an edible?”

“Can I just get both?” I ask her, feeling the desperation as I need anything that I can get right now. And considering my past options are no longer available, I need a lot of fucking THC.

She nods, pushing away from the desk as she gets up from her chair. She slips into the room that’s attached to the nurses’ station. I shift my weight on my feet, tapping my fingertips on the desk as I wait for her. She comes back out with a pen and a cartridge and an octagon shaped edible.

I take both of them from her, silently thanking her with a nod before I walk away. The common room has a few people in there playing pool while a few others occupy the couch. I don’t particularly want to be around anyone right now, so instead I slip out into the garden area.

As I step out into the fresh air, I inhale deeply before hitting the pen in my hand. I take a long hit, exhaling a large cloud of smoke before popping the edible into my mouth. I walk aimlessly through the gardens, chewing the sugary medicine and swallowing as I reach the fountain.

I drop down onto the bench across from the fountain, hitting my pen again and pull the smoke from the live resin into my lungs. Leaning back on the cold metal, I tilt my head back and exhale deeply, watching the smoke as it drifts up into the sky. My eyes fall shut as I feel the effects slowly kicking in from the weed.

It takes the edge off, but once that edible hits, I’ll be good for the rest of the night.

“Are you okay?” Her singsong voice is soft, breaking through the silence and my thoughts as she sits down on the bench beside me.

I lift my head, glancing over at Ainsley as she stares at me with a concerned look in her eyes. “What are you doing out here?” I ask her, my voice hoarse from the harsh smoke that I inhaled and thick with emotion.

Just having her this close instantly calms me.

“I was taking something to Nolan when I saw you storm out of your room.” She pauses, her soft eyes bouncing back and forth between mine. “I followed you after I dropped the papers off in his office and overheard you with the nurse, and then saw you come out here.”

“But why did you come out here?” I bite at her, mainly from the anxiety from the mindfuck I’ve been experiencing with her. “You’ve been avoiding me, so why now?”

Ainsley chews on the inside of her cheek, fiddling with a lock of hair in between her two fingers. “You seemed like you could use some company right now.”

“Quite the opposite,” I growl. “Just go back to avoiding me. I’ll answer the phone when you call me later tonight.”

“Killian,” Ainsley starts, her voice soft and low as she reaches out for my hand. Her touch burns my skin, but I welcome the fucking flames. “I haven’t been avoiding you because I want to. You know how things have to be between us right now.”

I rip my hand away from hers, instantly feeling the cold air replacing her warmth. A wave of pain and rejection flashes in her eyes as she jerks back like I just slapped her. “Why the fuck do you get to decide for both of us, huh? You think that you know what’s best for us, but never once did you think to ask me what I thought about it.”

“Because your thoughts are irrational, Killian,” she snaps at me, crossing her arms defensively over her chest as she challenges me with those deep brown eyes. “You think that we’re untouchable and we’re fucking not.”

“The only way that we’re not untouchable is if we get caught.” I reach out for her, pulling her arms away from her chest as I wrap my hand around hers. “The only thing that I want to touch is you, baby girl.”

A fire burns in the deep brown hues of her irises and I hear the sharp intake of her breath. “You know that we can’t, Kill.”

My lips curl upward into a smirk. “Oh, but we can.” I let go of her hand and place mine on her thigh. Gripping her flesh with my fingers, I slowly stroke her soft skin with the pad of my thumb. I push her dress out of the way, sliding my hand under the silky material. Ainsley’s legs instinctively part slightly as I work my way up to the apex of her thighs.

Ainsley swallows hard, her chest rising and falling as her breathing grows shallow. “You’re playing with fire, baby boy.”

A chuckle rumbles in my chest. “Don’t you know? We are the fire.”

“We’re untouchable,” she murmurs, biting down on her lip as I push her underwear out of the way, slipping a finger through her wetness. A moan catches in her throat, her chest heaving as I slide my middle finger inside her. “What if someone walks out here?”

“Don’t worry about that,” I whisper, pressing my thumb against her clit as I slide another finger inside her. “Just focus on me fucking you with my hand. I’ll worry about the rest.”

Ainsley’s eyes fall shut and she nods as she stifles another moan. The fountain is surrounded by shrubs. If anyone were to walk up on us, it would look like we were just sitting on the bench together. No one would be able to see my fingers deep inside her soaking pussy unless they were standing right in front of us.
