But does he feel the same way, or is he just putting on a good show?

I need to figure that out and look for some kind of sign.

We pull into the driveway of a cute two-story house, and I park next to Ford’s truck. He climbs out and heads my way. My mouth waters at the sight of him and my body heats. I want to be with him. I want to finally lose my v-card and I want to do it with the man I’ve always loved. The only man that I’ve ever felt that way about.

He opens my door for me and I take a deep breath as I take his hand and climb out of my car.

“Is this what you expected?” Ford asks me as we start to head towards the front door.

“Not really. I pictured a log cabin in the middle of nowhere or something,” I admit.

I look around and see that his neighbor’s place is just a quarter mile away.

“That’s Ransom and Ruby’s place,” he says, nodding toward the house.

“It looks nice.”

He unlocks the front door and lets me step in first. His place is the typical bachelor pad with a leather couch and a huge flatscreen TV hanging on the wall above the fireplace. The rest of the living room is kind of bare.

“It’s, uh, not really decorated,” Ford says, and I turn to see that he looks self-conscious about that.

“It’s nice. I like the floors,” I say, tapping my shoe on the hardwood floors.

“I’ll show you around.”

I toe off my shoes by the front door, and then he takes my hand and leads me around. The kitchen is sparkling clean, and I wonder if he cooks here much. I guess there’s not much need since he’s almost always at the diner and he can just eat there.

There’s a door leading to the back porch, and I smile at the view of the forest and mountains. My fingers itch for my brushes and I wish I could paint this view.

“There’s a bedroom down here; it’s small,” he says as he leads me down a short hallway off the kitchen. “And a half bath here.”

I glance at the bathroom and smile as I see the navy blue hand towels. It seems like the typical décor for bachelors is in here, too.

“This is the bedroom,” he says and I peek in and see that the room really is small.

It has huge windows overlooking the mountains and all I can think is that it would make a great art room.

“I like the view,” I say, and he squeezes my hand as he leads me over to the staircase and upstairs.

“It’s just bedrooms and bathrooms up here,” he explains as we walk past one bedroom and then another.

My hand starts to sweat as we get closer to the master bedroom.

Is this it?

His hand tightens around mine, and I can tell that he’s just as on edge as I am.

Is that a sign?

I peek at him and he looks down at me.

“Cameron,” he whispers as we stop at the threshold of his room.

It feels like we’re balancing on the precipice of something huge, life-changing. I hold my breath, waiting to see what he’ll do.

“Cameron,” he whispers again, and I lick my lips.

I let out a shaky breath and he leans closer to me, eating up the small distance between us. His warm, minty breath fans across my face and my eyelids flutter closed as his mouth lands on mine.
