Leaving the building is a lot easier than I expected, but I don’t breathe easily until we’re in our vehicles and on our way home.

Sansone pulls me onto his lap and nuzzles my neck. Happy nothing happened to him, I comb my fingers through his hair and murmur nonsense sounds.

“You almost got shot today.” Sansone squeezes me closer to him.

“So did you.” I brush the hair away from his forehead and press my lips against his warm skin.

“That was different. You were reckless.”

“I know where this is going. You’re going to threaten me with a punishment, right?” I lean to his side and nip his ear.

“Teasing me won’t change your fate.”

I sigh and lean away, although not by much as his hold is very secure. “Okay, tell me. What do I have to look forward to?”

Sansone tweaks my nose. “A week, at least. Tied to my bed.”

My body clenches at the thought. “Are you sure you want me unable to touch you for an entire week?”

“Woman, you will not change my mind,” he growls, worsening my condition.

I fidget in his lap to calm my body, and he hardens under my ass. “Don’t be so sure about that.” I thread my fingers through the hair at his nape and pull his head toward mine for a soulful kiss.

Whatever happens in the next week, I’ll enjoy teasing him and welcoming whatever he wants to do to me.

CHAPTER 33

Zakiya

“You aren’t going to tell me where we’re going?” I ask Sansone.

Before leaving the house this morning, he added additional conditions to my punishment. The blindfold barring me from seeing where we’re going seems to be the first addition of the day. I expect more to come, but Sansone’s mind isn’t as predictable as I’d like.

“Nope. You wield knowledge as a weapon, and today isn’t the day for your shenanigans.” The lightness and underlying humor in his voice warm my insides.

He sounds happy, and given the challenges we’ve recently faced, it’s a hard-won and well-deserved emotion.

“Will you at least tell me why Tácito showed up early this morning to take Jinx to Valentino’s?”

“Patience. All will be revealed in due time, but if you need a distraction, I have ideas.”

“You always have ideas.” I let a beat pass. “Well? I’m not distracted.”

He chuckles. A dip in the seat beside me tells me he’s about to invade my space. Sansone cups my jaw and angles my head.

His minty breath fans my face, and I inhale the heady scent and part my lips in readiness for his. As the air against my mouth grows stronger and my anticipation builds to near-unbearable heights, the car stops.

“We’re here.” Sansone takes my hand and leads me out of the car.

“Tease,” I grumble.

He becomes my navigator, directing me on the obstacles to avoid and steps to traverse. When I reach the third floor, my suspicions rise. A familiar scent perfumes the air. I’ve been to this place before.

Softer hands take over from Sansone.

“Take ten steps forward.”

“Max?”
