His jaw drops. “But, we’re already married.”

“Yeah, about that… I want a big wedding. A renewal of vows with bridesmaids and five hundred guests at the very least.”

“Paige, are you kidding with me?”

Ignoring him, I slide my glasses back on and lower myself on the lounger, so I am lying flat. “I’m deadly serious. I want it all.”

Foster sighs, but now strokes my arm. “You’re serious?”

“I am.”

“People will question why we’re having a renewal of vows so early in our relationship.”

“You think I care what people say? No one needs to know about our relationship.” That’s when it hits me—people do know. I jump up and throw my legs over the lounger, startling Foster.

“What’s the matter?” he asks.

“Foster, I told Zane and Lana about the contract!”

His jaw flexes, and he chews on his bottom lip. “If your brother didn’t hate me before, I’m sure he does now.”

“This wouldn’t have happened if you told the truth earlier!” I snap.

Foster calmly places his hand on mine, but I wrench it away.

“I don’t want to argue about this,” he leads. “I fucked up. I’ve admitted my transgressions.”

“And now we need to do damage control,” I plot. “I don’t know what’s worse, the fact that I signed a contract to marry you for money, or that the contract was fake.”

“We’ll figure it out.”

“I hope so,” I mutter worriedly. “As soon as we get home, we need to.”

“That soon?”

“That soon.”

Both Foster and I settled back on our loungers and relaxed in the heat from the bright sun. I wish we could stay here for longer than a weekend, but the sooner we explain our situation, the better. I want this behind us so we can move on and build a life together without lies or deceit.

“We could stay?” Foster offers.

I throw some clothes in my suitcase. “As much as I would love to stay, we can’t. You didn’t hear the voicemail Zane left me. He’s pissed.”

Foster smirks. “I didn’t tell you to hang up and ignore his calls.”

“I didn’t want any interruptions.”

“We’ll deal with the consequences,” he assures. “Finish packing.”

“What time is our flight?”

“Two. We’ll be back in the city by about seven.”

“I have work tomorrow. That is if Zane doesn’t fire me.”

“You can have your old job back. Your office is empty.”

“Why? It’s prime real estate.”
