I choose to sit on one of the soft blue banquettes in the back. The music is soft, smooth jazz played by a local band. I sip my drink while perusing the room for a woman that looks like Lana. I know I don’t have to try much to attract women. I ooze confidence, and my looks don’t hurt either. I spot her sitting at the bar with another man. He’s not nearly competition for me, and I assess their body language to see if they’re attached.

It’s obvious their not. She maintains a safe distance while talking to him, and neither of them touches each other. She’s beautiful with the same color auburn hair as Lana, but a bit shorter. Her figure is curvier and her skin tanned while Lana’s is perfect porcelain. She’ll do for the night if she’s interested.

The waitress comes by to refresh my drink, but I decline. I prefer to go to the bar and get my own so that I can strike up a conversation. I’m just about to do just that when I feel my phone vibrate in my back pocket. It’s still early, just after seven. I slip the cell out to take a look at who is contacting me. Lana.

Are you free tonight? Declan is away on business, and I’m bored.

Do you want to get together tonight?

That’s what I wrote, isn’t it?

I thought you were upset with me last week.

We have to talk about that. Can you come to my suite for dinner?

It’s such a dangerous thing for me to be alone with her in the condition that I’m in right now. I could easily seduce her into bed and fuck her all night. I ponder whether it’s a good idea to say yes.

Can we have dinner downstairs?

That’s fine. I’ll meet you in the lobby by 8:00.

Now I have to run home and dress in a suit. The restaurants at The Plaza are fancy, and jeans and a sweater won’t cut it. I practically run out of the club and catch the first cab that races by me. I’m home, dressed, and on my way just before seven forty-five and should just make it to midtown by 8:00 if traffic cooperates.

Lana is nowhere to be seen when I get there, and I text her that I’m here. She tells me to come up to her room because she isn’t ready. FUCK! That is not a good thing. I let her know that I can wait for her, but she says it will be a while, so I have no choice but to go upstairs.

She answers the door in a cute little black dress wearing the ever-present locket. She’s ready to come downstairs but talks me into having dinner in her suite. I can’t get over the luxury and opulence of this place. I’ve never been to The Plaza for any event or meeting before.

She and Declan reside in the penthouse suite, which is a duplex. The bedroom is upstairs and has its own private terrace. You can see views of the city from the windows. The furnishings scream old money, and the sitting room and dining area are done up in shades of light blues, whites, creams, and yellows. A designer area rug covers the floor of the sitting area in colors that compliment the surroundings.

There’s a black marble table with two elegant dining chairs off to the side of the living area. An elegant dark wood stairway with walls of decorative panels and light wallpaper lead up to the second floor. I can only imagine what this must cost per night, and they’ve been living here for several weeks already.

“Nice, huh?”

“This place is gorgeous.”

“Would you like a tour?”

I give her a flat no because once we hit the bedroom, I’ll want to take her there.

“Why not?”

“Lana, I have little control right now. There are so many things I want to do to you…with you. I prefer not to see the bedroom where you put your pretty head, where Declan gets to touch your body.”

“We haven’t had sex in almost three weeks,” she blurts out.

I raise my eyebrows. “Are you two not getting along?”

“He says he’s tired and I understand because he’s been traveling. But this is the longest stretch we’ve gone since we’ve been together. I don’t understand.”

“He is older than you. ” I can’t believe I’m defending him. He’s probably fucking his side dishes so much that he has nothing for her. Why is he bothering to marry?

“So, you’ve said. I think he’s cheating on me.”

“Do you have proof?” I do.

“Of course not. I’m just speculating.”

“Do you want to marry him?”
