I’m confused. I never introduced her to Paige, and as far as I know, they didn’t have any interaction at the club. How did she get my number from my sister? I’m curious, and I text Lana not expecting anything in reply.

Why did you leave? I was hoping to make you some eggs.

I remembered that I had brunch with my parents and sister today.

What time did you get up?

5:45. Paige was coming through the door with some guy. I asked her for your cell number. I hope that was alright.

Fuck. If I knew Paige was going to bring home a guy, I should have cut her off at the pass before she even attempted. I don’t even want to think about what she was doing with this person in my home.

Yes, it’s fine. I’m glad we finally exchanged phone numbers.

I have to go. I need to shower and get to The Rainbow Room by 11:00

Wow, The Rainbow Room? That’s some fancy place. I stop thinking about Lana for a minute so I can deal with Paige and her uninvited guest. I hope I don’t see them in a state of undress and decide it’s better to knock first, which I do and wait but hear nothing. Opening the door, Paige is in bed with her friend sleeping on the chaise in the corner of the room. I breathe a sigh of relief but make a note to have a conversation with her about my rules.

Since it’s early and my bed is now unoccupied, I skip the coffee and slip under the sheets. The pillow smells like Lana, and I can see faint lipstick marks on the cloth where it must have rubbed off. I sleep for a few hours and wake up with a raging hard-on from dreaming of her. I don’t know how much more I can take, but I need her underneath me before I lose my mind.

It’s close to noon when I throw the covers off. Paige is sitting on the kitchen island with her legs crossed, drinking coffee, and reading a magazine.

“You know the counter is for plates and glasses. I have chairs for you to sit on.”

“I like sitting up here. You could take a nap up here because this is so big.”

She puts her coffee down and slides her body onto the white and black flecked granite. It’s true, the island is enormous but I prefer not to think of lying up there and tell Paige to get off. Maybe one day I can christen the counter with Lana.

“So, you had a girl over last night?”

“I slept in my office.”

“Why?”

“Because I barely know her. She’s someone I want to get to know better. And that reminds me, no male guests.”

“How did you know Ben was here?”

“That’s his name?”

“Yes, but how did you know?”

“I woke up a little past six and read Lana’s text. Thanks, by the way, for giving her my number.”

“You barged into my room?”

“I knocked first. I got no answer, so I opened the door.”

“I didn’t sleep with him. He needed a place to stay because his friends ditched him at Wicked Ninety Two. He lives in Philly, but he’s moving here in a couple of weeks when he starts his new job.”

“I would appreciate if you ask me next time.”

“You want me to come into your room at 5:30 AM and ask if a guy can sleep over?”

“Paige, cut the crap. I expect you to respect my home.”

She slides off the counter and walks towards her room, “I guess I’m going to have to find my own place soon if I want to get any.”

“I love you.”
