“What’s not to be chipper about? My beautiful niece is getting married, and it’s going to be a lovely day.”

I see Vivian and Noah exchange glances, but they don’t day anything. I’m famished when my plate of eggs is placed before me, and I practically shovel the omelet into my mouth.

I spend most of the wedding ceremony watching the blonde-headed creep drape his arm over Olivia’s shoulders. I want to get up and tear it off and tell him she’s mine, but I behave as requested. Olivia looks gorgeous. Her hair is styled in an updo with tendrils of curls around her face. The dress she’s wearing is a medium blue with a plunging back, ruching around the waist, and a deep dip in the front that shows off her perfect cleavage.

I’m wearing a dark blue suit, white shirt, and a light blue tie. I haven’t worn a suit in ages, but I bought this one specifically for Rory’s wedding. I left my stubble because I know that Olivia likes it. Today, I’m going to be her Mr. Dangerous to win her back.

I glance over to my side toward Zane. Apparently, Rory invited him and his plus one, who is almost a perfect match for Lana, his ex-fiancé. Shaking my head, I ask myself if he will ever learn. His arm is around the woman, and he’s stroking the side of her breast. I scowl at him, and after catching my look, he stops. I want nothing to ruin this day.

The ceremony is short and sweet, and in less than twenty minutes, the organist is playing the wedding march out of the church. Now comes the hard part, the reception. I make it my mission to dance with Olivia even if I have to wrench her out of her date’s grip. She’s mine, and I want her to know I want her back.

I can’t take my eyes off her, and I know she can see me watching. At some point, Lexi comes by my table to talk after Noah and Vivian vacate the seats next to me.

“Lucian, having a good time?”

“Pretty good, but not quite. Something is missing.”

“That’s what I wanted to talk to you about. Why are you doing what you’re doing to Olivia?”

“Huh? What am I doing?”

“You’re harassing her. She likes this guy, and you had your chance.”

“My chance isn’t over,” I argue. “Who is this guy anyway? She’s only known him a week.”

“He’s an old boyfriend, Joshua. She dated him about five years ago.”

“Yeah, so?”

“So, leave her alone. She wants to get back together with him.”

“But I want her. I made a stupid mistake. She belongs with me.”

“She doesn’t belong to anyone and is free to make her own choice.”

“Lexi, it was turning into something good until I got scared. I fucked up, but I didn’t think she would land in someone else’s arms so quickly.”

“She told me you ran out and avoided her. Why would you do that?”

“Because of Cassie. I had a bad dream where she accused me of cheating on her. My head was all screwed up, and I needed to get it right.”

“Well, it’s too late now.”

“It doesn’t have to be,” I insist. “I want to talk to her. I deserve that much.”

“You behaved like an asshole! She doesn’t owe you anything.”

“I want to say that I’m sorry.”

“You hurt her. Leave her alone Lucian, I mean it.”

Lexi gets up, and I watch her go, her words eating at me. Olivia wanted to move on so quickly? I was going to wait for my chance and talk to her anyway.

Just before dessert, she picked up her purse and made her way out of the hall. I hurriedly follow and see her just as she disappears into the ladies' room. There is a small lounge near it, around the corner, where I wait for her to exit.

“Olivia!” I call when she exits.

She turns to me and wrinkles her nose, then continues walking back to the wedding festivities. I had to think fast. Running over, I pick her up and carry her over to the hidden lounge. The entire way, she whispers at me to let her go. As soon as I put her down, she slaps me, hard.
