“You should still go.”

“Stop nagging. I want to enjoy this night.”

I close my mouth and leave to get a quick workout in. It usually settles my mind but not this time. I was agitated about asking her to marry me and the potential of her being sick. Nothing would calm me until she had my ring on her finger and a clean bill of health.

I shower, then dress in a navy blue suit with a matching tie. It was a nice contrast to my white shirt. When Olivia emerges from the closet in the short silver dress and heels, I want to forget the party. She looks fantastic, and since we haven’t had sex in a few days, I want her even more. My dick automatically hardens as she turns, and I get a view of the dress hugging her ass.

“Baby, I want to peel you out of that tonight. I would rather not go to the party and have you all night instead.”

She approaches me and cups her hand around my erection, rubbing me through the smooth cloth of my suit pants. “Not going to happen,” she answers headily. “I’m looking forward to this party. I promise if you’re a good boy that I’ll make sure to reward your patience.”

“You’ll see when I take you to bed tonight how good I can be.”

“I’m counting on it.”

She retracts her hand, and we head to the foyer to put on our coats. The short trip to Jordan’s penthouse had her practically sitting on my lap in the cab, passionately kissing me. I wasn’t sure I would be able to walk around without getting arrested because she had my cock so hard that my balls ached.

When we get out, I quickly button my suit jacket and pull my long blue wool coat around me, hoping my erection will subside during the elevator ride upstairs. Fortunately, it did enough to be presentable after I remove my coat. We mingle in separate directions when we join the party, me towards Hunter and Chase and Olivia towards Emma and Lexi.

I watch her move about, laughing with the other ladies and sipping champagne. My gaze became even more intensely fixed when I realize that Jake is here. Jordan had hired him a few weeks back, and I heard that he had just settled into his new home in Manhattan. I can tell by the heated way he looks at Olivia that he still holds a torch for her. She is mine, and once she is wearing my engagement ring, I will feel more secure about him being in the same city as us.

I need to find a free intimate moment where I can drop to one knee and ask her to be mine, forever. After scoping it out, the snow has ceased falling, and Jordan had several heaters on the decorated patio. I pat the ring in my pocket, hoping its contents would be on Olivia’s finger by night’s end.

As the time creeps closer to midnight, I become engrossed in a conversation with Hunter. Having lost track of Olivia, I go hunting for her when Rory pulls Hunter away. In my search, I realize that Jake is also gone. My stomach knots and insecurity gnaws at me. Where is she? Making another round, I come upon them in almost the same spot on the patio where Jake had last kissed her. Only a few people are out there, so I can hide behind the sculpted lighted evergreen and overhear their conversation.

“Olivia, why not me?”

“Because Jake, you’ve proven you can’t be trusted. You hurt me, and you’re not the right person for me.”

“And he is?” Jake throws a hand toward the party. “He ran off and left you. You had to chase him. If he loves you so much, he should have stayed and fought for you.”

“You don’t understand. Besides, it’s none of your business. I love him.”

“I don’t believe that. You loved me once, and I think you still do.”

“You gave up your chance. Lucian is the one I want.”

“Hearing you keep stating it makes me believe it’s not the truth. Why hasn’t he asked you to move in with him or give you a ring?”

“He has.”

Jake laughs sarcastically. “You’re not sure, that’s why you haven’t jumped at the chance. The Olivia I know wants to be married. Why would you say no?”

I was getting annoyed with her. She should have just told Jake that we were moving slowly and that we had every intention of getting married. She didn’t even tell him we had an apartment together.

“It’s none of your business,” she stresses.

She turns to go, but he grabs her and pulls her against his chest. I was about to approach when he lifts her chin and presses his lips to hers. Startled, I wait to see what she will do, but she responds by running her hands through his hair and softly moaning as they kiss.

Anger boils up inside me, and I rush out from behind my spot toward them.

“I fucking knew it!” I shout. “I knew there was a reason why you were hesitating! If you wanted him, why didn’t you just tell me?”

She breaks away from Jake as soon as she hears my voice. I glare at the both of them and a smirk bloom on the Aussie’s face. I want to tear him limb from limb.

“I’m sorry, Lucian!” she cries. “I’m confused.”

“Not from what I saw,” I snap. “You know exactly what you want.”
