“I love you, too.”

He stroked my hair, lulling me to sleep while we watched some ridiculous reality show on television.

The rest of my week went smoothly, and Austin and I figured out a schedule to sleep at each other’s places. I enjoyed spending time with him, and he was teaching me to cook. On Saturday morning, we woke up early with plans to drive up the coast, stop at a beach in Malibu, and have lunch.

It was a beautiful day in early February, and the cold snap we were having finally broke. The temperatures were to be in the low eighties. It had been some time since I’d driven up the coast. The last time was when I was feeling restless several months ago. I left my house at 4:00 AM one June morning and just kept driving, turning around when I reached Santa Barbara.

“What are you wearing?” Austin asked as I looked in my closet.

I pulled open one of the drawers in the square island. “I think shorts, but it’s a little cool this morning, so maybe jeans.”

“We’re going swimming, bring a bikini. I like the white one.”

I looked at him as I searched through my drawer. “Of course you do, but I don’t have my tan anymore. It faded.”

Austin leaned against the counter. “Then wear the bright orange one.”

“The one that shows my ass? I’ll get arrested.”

“Then why the hell did you buy it?”

“Because I was alone in the Maldives and wanted a nice tan. I didn’t expect to meet you.”

“Promise me you’ll wear it by the pool. I love your sexy ass.”

“You love everything on me.”

“You’re right, I do.”

As I stood, he kissed me then went to finish dressing. I had given him a few drawers in my closet and a whole section to hang clothing. When I came out, Austin was wearing a pair of gray khaki shorts and a navy polo shirt. His thick hair combed back. I looked him over and shivered knowing he was all mine. I dressed in a blue bikini and pulled a pair of yellow capris and a white t-shirt over the outfit.

“Ready to go?” Austin asked.

I nodded, excited for the day. He drove at a comfortable pace, and I slipped on my sunglasses as we headed toward Malibu. Even at this early hour, the sun was beating down hot, and I was glad I wore something lighter than jeans.

By the time we got to the beach, the temperature was close to eighty, and I was sweating. I wiped my brow as Austin pulled into the parking lot. There were a few people already sunning themselves on the sand, and we got our beach chairs and towels from the trunk.

Austin nuzzled my ear. “Mmm, Sammy on the beach.”

I looked at him horrified. “Sammy? Are you serious?”

“No one calls you Sammy?”

“Not since I was about nine.”

“Then it’s perfect. It will be my pet name for you. I think it’s sexy.”

I groaned. “Only you.”

We found a spot and got set up. A couple of young men were sitting behind us, and I glanced at them behind my sunglasses. They were staring as I undressed. I was glad that Austin didn’t see. He slathered my body with suntan lotion so I wouldn’t burn, and I did the same to himself. An hour later, he asked if I wanted to go swimming.

“Isn’t the water a little chilly?”

He pointed toward the ocean. “Look, other people are going in.”

A few of the sunbathers were frolicking in the waves.

“Okay, let’s go.”
