“I was told he has other business interests.”

“I’m sure. Ones that his son is not involved in. I refuse to take on a headache, especially with the first impression I received.”

Hassan patted my arm. “I’m sorry. You should’ve said something immediately.”

“In front of Jameson?”

“We’re interested in purchasing their company, not the other way around.”

“I know you want to get into animation, but there must be another company we can look into.”

“I’ll have to speak with the board. In the meantime, we’ll keep digging, and if we don’t find anything, I can ask that JJ be removed.”

“Would Jameson be in favor?”

“I was hoping to keep JJ on because of his knowledge, but not with these circumstances. I’m sure we can obtain a head from one of the other animation studios.”

I breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank you. I was worried last night.”

Hassan leaned back against the couch. “Worried why? Did you think I would terminate you for something like this? I’m just sorry you had to deal with such behavior.”

“It’s not unexpected. My reputation isn’t always known, and not all men treat women with respect. I’ve had to deal with it before.”

Hassan glanced at his watch. “I have a breakfast meeting in twenty minutes. I just wanted to clear the air.”

We rose together, and I walked him to the door. He squeezed my shoulder before he left. It was nearing 8:30, and I wondered if Austin was in his office or driving. I dialed his cell, and he picked up on the second ring.

“Just pulled into the parking lot. How did it go?”

“Fine, better than expected. I told Hassan about JJ. He said I should have told him immediately.”

“I agree. How are you feeling?”

“Okay. Can I see you tonight?”

“I was hoping you would say that. I should’ve let you have your way with me this morning.”

Austin chuckled. “Next time don’t doubt the come fuck me eyes.”

“Next time I wake you up and take you into the shower with me.”

“Your place tonight?”

“Sure. I can pick you up. I’m out of here by 2:00.”

“I can have my driver bring me. I need to stop off at my house for some fresh clothes.”

“You should leave more at my home if you’ll be there more.”

“I’ll think about it. I have a conference call I need to prepare for. I’ll speak to you later.”

“I love you, Sam.”

I didn’t say it back even though it was at the tip of my tongue. I told him when he was sleeping, which didn’t count. Austin deserved to know his love was returned.

I breezed through the day, feeling better by the time six rolled around. I told Marina to go home, and she seemed thankful, especially since I asked her to help me put together some preliminary ideas for a marketing campaign. I would brief the advertising department on the project in the coming days.

Austin was waiting for me when I came outside. Most of my staff left for the day, but I told him not to kiss me until we were out of the view of the main building.
