“I’m sure my employees are chattering among themselves. Who would possibly send the ice queen roses?”

“Let them talk. They don’t know you like I do.”

I chewed on my bottom lip. “I’m not sure we can get together tonight.”

Silence. Exactly what I didn’t want. I waited for him to speak.

“You promised, but I understand.”

“We’re negotiating for an animation studio. I was roped into dinner with the CEO. I’m hoping my reputation precedes me on this one.”

“Why?”

I sighed. “Because it will save me the aggravation. If Jameson Wentworth knows I mean business, then small talk will be out of the way. I don’t make small talk when it comes to negotiations. I want to get right to it.”

“Maybe negotiations would be easier if you let people in.”

“In business, that is non-negotiable.”

Austin chuckled. “As opposed to the bedroom?”

“I let you in.”

“You didn’t this morning.”

I drummed my fingers on the desk. “That was sex not letting you in.”

“I wanted to love you.”

“By seducing me in my kitchen?”

“Is that so wrong? I love you.”

I softened my voice before this turned into an argument, “It’s not wrong. I was short on time.”

“Am I seeing you at all tonight?”

I hovered my mouse pointer over an email in my mailbox. “I’ll try. Should I come to your place?”

“That makes sense since I don’t have any idea when you’ll be home. Besides, I have food in my house.”

“I’ll need to work on that.”

“Unless you want to stay at my place every night.”

“You don’t like my home?”

“I didn’t say that, but I’m much more domestic than you are.”

“I have to agree.”

“Can you call me if you’re coming over?”

“I’ll try my best, but sometimes these dinners can run late.”

“I hope to see you. I have a student meeting in a few minutes.”

“I’ll talk to you later.”
