The drive to JC’s is quick and the driveway is filled with cars when we arrive. Hunter must have brought over a whole crew. We hear yelling and splashing when we enter the house. Sure enough, there are about ten people there. Brianna grabs Nikki’s hand and they head out to the pool. I look from Noah to JC and shake my head.

“I’m tired but we’re not going to be able to sleep with this noise.”

“I can tell them to leave if you want,” JC says.

“JC, that would be rude and I’m sure that Brianna would give you a hard time.”

He looks out the window and his wife already has a beer in her hand. I have no idea where she is putting all the alcohol and why she isn’t majorly drunk.

“It looks like the guys are going into the pool house,” JC said.

“Why? What’s in there?”

“They play poker. Do you want to join in? You were quite the card shark if I remember.”

“I haven’t played for a while. Noah do you want to play?”

I can see he was looking at me expectantly, so I nod and he heads over to the pool house leaving me alone with JC.

“Are you going to play?”

“No, I would rather hang out with you if you don’t mind. I think we have some issues to discuss.”

“I seriously don’t want to discuss them now.”

“This is our best chance. We can’t at work and you’re busy after work. Please Lexi?”

I know it’s a conversation we need to have. I’m still wearing only my bikini top and shorts. I tell him to let me go upstairs to change. The air conditioning is making me feel cold and I want to put on a sweatshirt. He tells me he’ll wait for me in the living room and I head upstairs to change. I pull some clothing out of my bag and realize that I took Noah’s gray sweatshirt instead of mine. It’s pretty big on me but it allows me to forgo a bra which is fine with me. No one will be able to tell.

JC is waiting for me and he made me a cup of tea, Earl Grey with lemon in it. He remembered and I’m flattered.

“Thank you. You remembered.”

“I would never forget something like that, Lexi,” he says softly.

I pick up the delicate china cup and take a sip. He even put in some honey. It makes me wonder if he purchased the Earl Grey just for me or it was here in the house. JC was always doing little sweet gestures for me when we were together. Too bad he couldn’t keep his dick in his pants.

“Okay, so where do we start.”

He sighs, “I think we have a bit of tension between us.”

“We really don’t until you make references to my sex life. That bothers me a lot. Why do you do that?”

“I’m sorry. We have so much history together. I feel so foolish for letting you go. I never dreamed my life would be this way. I married someone I should have said no to. I let my father talk me into it and then I got stuck.”

“JC, are you still in love with me?”

I stare into his blue eyes hoping he’s going to be truthful with me.

“Sometimes I think I am. I don’t think there was a time I wasn’t”

This is a huge revelation to me. In high school he made me miserable. I would work so hard and he would best me on almost everything academic. It was one of the most frustrating times in my life. I was surprised when he approached me in college and asked me out. I only did it to see what he was really up to.

“I don’t understand. You disliked me in high school.”

“I pretended to dislike you in high school. I really did like you.”

“Then why did it take you a whole year to ask me out in college?”
