The ceremony is short and sweet. I’m now Mrs. Jonathan Camden Lawson IV. I’m excited to start my life with my new husband. A life we should have started years ago. The night is spent in my parent’s backyard that’s been decorated by Glen Rock’s finest wedding planner. The food is wonderful as catered by our friend, the owner of French’s, Paul Borrego. Not that I feel much like eating.
At the end of the night, we’re whisked away in a limo to a luxurious suite at The Park Hyatt in Manhattan, courtesy of my father in law, Jonathan Camden Lawson III. He has made peace with JC telling him that marrying me was the best decision he ever made. Before we arrive at our destination, I let JC know that I haven’t been honest with him like we promised. I have a secret, and I need to get it out now.
“You should have discussed whatever you had to tell me as soon as you found out. Didn’t we promise?” he says sternly.
“Don’t be upset with me. We’ve been so busy that I didn’t have time.”
“This is a hell of a way to start our marriage. I demand that you tell me now.”
“I will.”
I start to giggle, and he looks at me, puzzled. Soon he’ll know. I lean in to whisper in his ear.
“I’m pregnant.”
“When did you find out?” he says with a giant smile.
“This morning. My period was late, so I took a test. I didn’t have time to tell you.”
“This is the best wedding present you could ever give me.”
“I think I’m about three weeks along. Next summer, we could be welcoming Jonathan Camden Lawson the fifth into the world.”
“No way. That name stops with me. Besides, it could be a girl. I would love to have a daughter.”
He leans down to kiss my stomach through my dress.
“Daddy loves you. I can’t wait to meet you.”
Then he looks up at me and tenderly presses his lips to mine.
“You’re my love and my soul mate. Thank you for becoming my wife.”
I love this man. A man who I initially thought was the worst mistake of my life…now I know better.
The End
