“I love you. I don’t want to leave. Don’t push me away.”

“Can we start fresh?”

“I want that so much.”

I know it’s probably stupid of me to forgive him so soon, but I can’t help it. I love him. I have two choices, forgive him or forget him. I’m glad Rory stayed at her friend’s house. It gave us time to make up.

The only problem is, I feel I let my body decide for me. Maybe I’m stupid for giving in so easily. I don’t know if what I did makes sense or I’m following the same pattern I did with JC several years before. I’m supposed to be older, wiser and more experienced, but I still have some doubts.

Chapter 23

Doubt is still eating at me for what we did the night before. I don’t have time to analyze my more than likely bad decision. I have an appointment with the bridal shop to have my wedding dress fitted. Olivia is meeting me, and then we’re going to lunch. I can’t wait to see her.

I slowly untangle myself from Noah’s embrace and head for the shower. I’m sore, and the soap stings a bit when I wash. It doesn’t surprise me since we went at it pretty hard. After I dry myself, I wrap the towel around me and start for the closet — Noah’s awake and watching me with lust in his eyes.

“Bring your pretty ass over here. I have something for you.”

“Noah, can we pick this up when I get home?”

“You don’t want to?”

“I want to, but I’m a little raw.”

He frowns, and his sapphire eyes darken.

“I was rough last night. I’m sorry. It’s because you’re so damn hot.”

“I need a rest. When is Rory coming back?”

“Not sure, but I think we can work something out even if she’s here tonight.”

I finish dressing and sit on the bed and run my fingers through his sex mused hair. His hand slips up my shirt, and I playfully slap at it, squirming out of his reach.

“You are sexy. My sexy Lexi.”

“Ugghh. That sounds so childish.”

“It’s true.”

“I have to go. I want to arrive before Olivia does.”

I hurry out the door. Doubt is deep inside me that I made a big mistake having sex with Noah.

In the elevator, I decided I should wait in the Olivia’s lobby and surprise her. I text her to see when she’s leaving, and she tells me she’s already on her way. Dammit, she’s going to get there before me. I better hop to it. I hail a cab and hope Olivia isn’t too far ahead of me.

The cab I’m in pulls up just as I see Olivia go into the bridal shop. At least I think it’s her. I hurriedly pay the driver and run to the door. She’s at the desk, and I stop short when she turns to me. She’s slim, slimmer than I’ve ever seen her before. In the months since she visited me in New York, she’s lost the excess weight she has carried for years.

“I can’t get over how beautiful you look. Why didn’t you tell me you lost weight?”

“I wanted to surprise you.”

It’s a huge surprise. Olivia was beautiful before with gorgeous thick wavy black hair that shines like glass, almond-shaped green eyes the color of soft moss, long eyelashes, high cheekbones and perfectly straight teeth framed by thick full red lips. Her body is now curvaceous with lush firm breasts, full hips and a flat stomach.

Two men are sitting in the corner more than likely waiting for family members, and I see them looking at us. I’m sure they’re looking at her more than me. I’m a bit envious but she’s my best friend and I’m thrilled for her.

After we chat a bit, I give the clerk my name, and she retrieves my dress. I grow impatient while the seamstress pins spots that need altering. She tells me I must have lost weight because my measurements have changed. The fact is that she’s probably right because I haven’t been eating much, especially in the last month. I can’t wait until this is finished so I can have lunch with Olivia.

As we walk to a restaurant not far from the shop, I reach out to hug Olivia. It startles her a little, but I love knowing she’s home for good.
