“I’m sorry to hear that. She was a nice lady.”

“I’m sure I can get an office on the eighteenth floor again. I still work for Victoria, who is getting married soon. Can you believe she found someone to put up with her mood swings? She still has her moments, but we get along pretty well now.”

Xander rose from the bed and opened his dresser drawer.

“Are you still going for a run?”

“I kind of have to. I have nothing much to eat in the house, and I’m starving. I was going to get a few things at the store. It’s a couple of miles away, and I can run it. Do you still eat bagels?”

“I don’t really. I have been clean eating for about eight months. No refined sugars, no white flour, only organic vegetables, and fruits; bacon is a no-no.”

“You can’t eat all the good stuff? I usually stick to Hot Pockets, frozen pizzas, and sandwiches when I don’t eat with Janelle.”

“You put all that garbage in your body? You would never know it from what it looks like on the outside.”

She looked him up and down.

“Now I feel like a piece of meat.” He said as he pulled on his boxers. A few minutes later he was dressed for a run and had secured a backpack on his shoulders. He sat down on the bed and kissed her lips softly.

“I love you. Don’t ever forget that.”

She ran her hand through his long hair.

“I love you, too.”

He went to leave as she lay in bed looking at the ceiling. Everything had come full circle, and they were finally back together. However, Ava felt a pang of sadness because as of tomorrow, they would be apart again and who knew for how long. Her mind was already worrying that without her being with Xander, he would change his mind and decide they were better separated, he was the only one with whom she wanted to spend her life.
