She sat up and her head thrummed. She had a massive hangover.

“I’m going to have to stay in bed all day the way I feel.”

“You need some water or Gatorade and aspirin. I’m sure room service could supply those unless you want to go back to your room?”

The thought had occurred to her, but she didn’t want to deal with the plethora of questions that would accompany her late morning entrance into the suite. She preferred to stay here with Xander. As long as she wasn’t feeling well, he would stay with her, and that would give them a chance to talk.

She settled back into bed, and he called room service asking for breakfast, Gatorade, and aspirin. From somewhere in the room she heard her phone chirp several times.

“Do you know where my purse is?”

He moved the clothing he had deposited on an armchair the night before and handed her the bag. She fished out her phone and was greeted with many texts spanning from the night before to just seconds ago. She chose to answer the latest one from Sam, that read

Where the fuck are you? What happened to you last night?

Xander has his own room, and he brought me there last night.

Oh? You have something to tell me?

CanI meet up with you later? I have a terrible hangover and want to stay in bed for a little longer.

Bed?

Nothing happenedlast night so stop speculating. I’ll text you later.

While she wasin the bathroom, room service came. Xander handed her a bottle of Gatorade and the small package of aspirin that she promptly took.

“Drink as much as you can. You need to hydrate. Do you want something to eat?”

She shook her head. Right now the last thing she wanted was food. Her stomach was roiling, and she was afraid she would vomit again. He furrowed his eyebrows at her, and she waited.

“How much weight have you lost?”

“Not a lot.”

“How much then?”

“Seven pounds. I’m one hundred three last time I checked.”

“Fuck, Ava, why aren’t you eating?”

“I don’t feel like it. I’m just not hungry.”

He calculated in his head how long they had been apart and how much per week on average she had lost. It was over a pound a week.

“Can I take you to dinner tonight? Just the two of us.”

“Ok.” Her heart fluttered at the thought of being with him on a date.

She lay back down on the bed while he ate breakfast. After he was finished, he placed the cart in the hall outside his room and lay next to her. He stroked her hair and rubbed her back lulling her back to sleep. When she woke up two hours later, he was fully dressed in shorts and a polo shirt. She smelled his cologne.

“How are you feeling, sweetheart?”

There was that flutter again. “Better. The headache is not so bad now. I’m going to go back to my room and take a shower; I need one.” She reluctantly pulled off his shirt and put on her dress from last night.

“Do we still have a date for dinner?”

“Absolutely. I think I’m going to go down to the pool for the afternoon. Would you like to join me?”
