"Come, darling, let’s leave these two vultures to themselves."

Vulnerable, on the verge of tears, I don’t feel strong enough to say no when Jonathan tugs me away from the group. I receive a few patronizing, pitiful smiles as people watch me escape one nightmare into another.

"We haven’t had a chance to give you a tour," Jonathan says as we walk around the edge of the room, past the fireplace.

"Oh, well, that’s alright. I’m sure I’ll get to know your home soon."

"No doubt," he replies without looking at me. My steps falter, but his grip is strong, and I don’t want to make a scene. The party is only halfway over, and Ophelia and I are nowhere near ready to snoop.

We emerge into a library, and I’m taken aback by the rest of Stevens Pack waiting for us. Kenneth is typing on his phone, barely sparing me a glance, while Saul scowls and Devon leans in to kiss my cheek.

Without letting go of my arm, Jonathan pulls me through the room. Saul points out the architecture and the estate from which they purchased the library books. Heaven forbid they built their own collection.

When we near a set of stairs, I dig in my heels. "But the party…?"

Kenneth, who slips his phone in his pocket, waves me off. "The party’s in full swing. No one will notice if the hosts sneak off for a bit," he winks.

I feel nauseous because I am surrounded by these four large alphas and all their intense energy, but I don’t have much choice. With two in front of me and two keeping me from escaping, at my back, I follow Stevens Pack upstairs for a tour of their home.

Chapter 32

Imogen

My omega instincts kicked in when the four of them discreetly separated me from the other guests, and I tried to stay calm.

But Saul's hosting abilities declined the further into the mansion we climbed, and alarm bells rang when Kenneth disappeared into a room at the end of a hall.

"I think your guests might be missing us," I say weakly.

"Don’t you mean our guests?" Kenneth smiles, reappearing in the doorway, the darkened hall making his veneer white teeth shine bright and sharp.

"Yes, right, of course. Our guests." A hand pushes my back, forcing me into the room, but I keep arguing. "And my mother, she’ll be wondering where I’ve run off to, no doubt disappointed in my first attempt at hosting." My voice trails off as I step into what appears to be an empty nest.

Low-lit sconces scatter around the space, revealing a low platform bed, a few dressers, and an open door that looks like it leads to a bathroom.

My heart races and the scent of the four alphas crowding me makes my omega cower in fear. Visibly shaking, I try so hard to control my reactions, but it’s like they’re purposely pushing their alpha energy at me, and it’s suffocating. I feel like I can’t breathe.

Hoping that this is still just part of the tour, that they wouldn’t be so reckless as to hurt me with a house full of guests downstairs, I steel my spine, pathetic as I may look, and attempt to put a few feet of space between me and them.

"This is the nest? It’s lovely," I offer, hoping my omega energy will diffuse the situation. But my voice shakes, and they all smile predatorily.

"We’ve had it for some time. Do you think you’d enjoy your heats here?" Jonathan asks. It always comes back to my heat.

It suddenly occurs to me that with Ophelia and Sully setting up security at all the heat clinics, they may have lost all their stolen privileges.

So, that’s why I’m here. I’m such an idiot. I knew they were looking forward to a heat, it’s all they've talked to me about. Being with me had nothing to do with finding a wife.

It was all about sex and power for them—an omega with parents dumb enough to sell their daughter.

"Imogen?" Jonathan prompts, reminding me he asked a question.

I need to play along. I need to get out of here.

I clear my throat, "Yes. It looks like a very comfortable place. Thank you for putting so much thought into it."

I turn, facing them, my back to a wall, when Devon laughs. It’s cruel, and the other three snicker as well.

"Alright, cut the shit, Imogen. We’re done with the games."
