“Come on, Dane.”

I feel my lips twitch. “Anxious for me to fill you?” I pull her to the edge of the stool and glide through her folds, then I spend time with the tip of my head circling her clit. God, she’s amazing. I’ve never done any of this with other women.

“Yes,” she gasps as I thrust inside her. Our names have never been screamed and panted as much as in this moment. “Yours. I’m yours,” she says as her lips ghost mine.

My body freezes, hoping I didn’t make it up. A flurry of feelings comes over me as she digs the pads of her fingers in my skin.

“Mine?”

She nods.

I look directly into her lust-filled eyes. “It was meant to be. This. Us. Trust me.”

As her departure time quickly approaches, we clean up, and I load her luggage. Our new relationship status has only made me more attached, making the thought of her leaving even tougher to bear. Excitement and nervousness mix in her eyes as she anticipates training with elite athletes and competing against them.

Sadly, airport regulations keep me from accompanying her to the gate, so I drop her off curbside with a bittersweet kiss and under a hanging basket of multi-colored pansies. I can't help but feel like we're in the final scene of a romantic movie, trying to hold onto the last precious moments together.

We squeeze each other. Kiss like we haven’t seen each other in years. Having a girlfriend and her leaving pulls my heart in opposite directions. Happy for her. Sad for me. If I would have admitted my feelings years ago, we could be engaged by now.

“I’ll message you and call you so often, you’ll have to get a restraining order on me.” I chuckle, attempting to lighten the mood.

She whispers over the shell of my ear, “Don’t fucking hurt me.”

Never.

Chapter Twenty-Seven

LETTIE

Resting my head against the seat, I close my lids. I’m Dane Greathouse’s girlfriend. Will his parents and my grandparents be happy, or will they fear what I do—that we could wreck our friendship beyond repair?

“Excuse me, is this seat taken?” A man’s crotch stands eye level, and I have to shake my head to process. His tight jeans and his Barbour vest scream money.

“Um, I don’t know. I changed planes in Atlanta and closed my eyes as soon as I sat down.”

He sits, locking his seatbelt in place. “Thanks. Jasper Cole.”

“Jasper? Oh my God, what a coincidence. I’m Lettie Scott. I’m the new rider you’re training.”

“Well, if I knew we would be sharing a plane, I would have bought us first class tickets, but since it’s only an hour flight, I can tough it out,” he says, slipping me a crooked smile. “Are you ready to work hard?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Good. No distractions?”

Other than dreaming about Dane. Thinking about Dane. Imagining Dane over top of me and behind me.

“Nope. Totally focused on winning and gaining points toward the Olympic Trials.”

After chatting a few more minutes, he opens his laptop. His fingers are thick, and I chuckle at how he types the wrong letter several times. Having already stuffed his ear pods inside his ears, he doesn’t hear me.

I should do some classwork but focusing on anything, but Dane is a challenge. Dane may be my demise, so far I haven’t been able to zone in on my studies even with my medication.

The flight is quick, and we head to baggage claim. I grab a rolling cart since I have three suitcases and only two hands. The metal carousel spits out the luggage, and Jasper says, “Are you ready?”

“No, I have one more.”

“You have three bags?” he asks with wide eyes and creases along his forehead.
