I jolt awake, grasping for breath. It takes a moment before the fog lifts, and I find myself surrounded by the four white walls of the hotel room. I yank the drenched shirt off and throw it on the floor. And then I notice Kali next to me. The reason for the nightmare. I hold my hand over my rapidly beating heart, grateful the echoes of my dream didn’t wake her.

She would have questions.

How do I explain I know how she felt in that box?

Not that I was ever in a box, but our nightmares run parallel lines.

I shake off the lingering dream and scoot out of bed, careful not to wake her. With a soft close of the bedroom door, the bright morning sun in the living area greets me. I drop on to the stiff green couch, stretching out my legs, and stare up at the ceiling. Memories of last night, owning her in every way, wipe away any unwanted thoughts. The way she gave herself to me was surprising. She wasn’t as innocent as I thought. I wondered who she’d been with, and that pissed me off. I’ve been with plenty of other women, and I’ve never once thought of their exes. What is going on with my head? She’s got me having feelings I’ve never experienced.

The bedroom door opens, and Kali walks out with tired eyes and her hair thrown into a messy knot on top of her head, with only my white T-shirt on. She yawns. “You’re up early,” she remarks, padding over to me and then straddling my lap.

“Yeah, I can’t turn off my internal alarm.” I gently squeeze her thighs. “Sore?”

“Yes,” she admits, her hands reaching for mine to move them. Being tense and walking down two hundred feet of stairs, it’s not surprising. Even I’m sore, and I work out every day. She leans in, planting her lips on mine for a soft, quick kiss. “I had fun last night, Officer Turner.”

Fun doesn’t even cover it. Best night ever.

I pull our joined hands behind her back. The shirt tightens, accentuating her small, perky tits. They’re perfect. Just like she is. Leaning over, I suck on her nipple through the shirt, and she lets out a soft moan. I switch sides, giving the other nipple equal attention, and sit back and revel in her hard nipples sticking out.

“There’s no need for this,” she says, slipping the T-shirt over her head and throwing it on the ground. My eyes drag down her nakedness as my dick presses into her, trying to free itself from my shorts. My stomach muscles flinch when she drags her nails over every inch of my abs. She lifts her head with amusement. “Ticklish?”

I palm her bare ass and pull her forward. Her arms wrap around my neck. A part of me was hoping she was horrible in bed—something to help burn off this obsession I have with her. She deserves someone better than me. She told me her secrets, and I’m an asshole for keeping mine.

But if she finds out, I’ll lose her.

My fingers travel lower to her center, finding her already hot and wet. She moans against my mouth when I slip one finger inside her. And then two. She rotates her hips for more friction, and I about lose it. I need to be inside her, so I flip her over on her back, my knees sinking into the couch cushions as I pull out my dick. There is nothing in this world more sexy than the way she smiles up at me in anticipation, greedy for my cock.

“So fucking perfect,” I say as I sink into her. She arches her back and gasps as I fill her to the hilt. She begs me to move as she grinds against me.

This is music to my ears, and I could listen to this playlist every day.

With our bags packed at the door, I draw her close and kiss the tip of her nose before we head out. I’m selfishly not ready to give her back to the world. “Thank you for telling me about the lottery.” It wasn’t a shock to learn she came into some money, that much was obvious. What caught me off guard was to hear it was in the millions. “But you know, it doesn’t change anything. I’m still paying for everything.”

She shrugs. “I’ll just have to buy you a boat.”

I stare, unsure if she’s joking or serious. Because the hell she is. I don’t need her to become my sugar momma. “Don’t even think about it. The only thing I need from you…is you.”

She nuzzles her head into my chest. “How are you still single?”

Because I’ve been waiting for you.

The coffee pit stop was supposed to be quick, but the line creeps forward. Kali’s reading an email from one of her professors about an upcoming class while we wait. It’s when she’s not looking that I’m unable to stop studying her. She’s wearing the necklace I gave her. The first piece of jewelry I’ve ever given a woman. I wasn’t being shortsighted when I told Grams that I’d found the woman I’m going to marry. I’ve known from the moment I saw her.

I’m just waiting for Kali to catch up.

It’s only been a month, but there’s an insatiable desire to be with her all the time, and with each passing second spent with her, my obsession deepens. She must sense me staring because she glances up. Her expression remains neutral and relaxed.

I don’t know why I didn’t see it before. It’s at that precise moment that I realize something.

She has her dad’s eyes.

CHAPTER 25

Paxton

Here we go.

This was not the way I wanted to start my Monday morning after the best weekend of my life. I mentally shake out my nerves as I stare at the Texas Ranger seated across the table. Martinez. He questioned me right after Kali was found.
