“Defending myself,” she says, her tone serious. I chuckle awkwardly. She’s a weird one. “I know what you’re thinking, our stories are exactly the same. We need to stick together. Girl power.” She throws her fist in the air. I’m not sure if she’s drunk or high, but she’s not right. I look closer and her eyes are dilated, which tells me she’s on something. This keeps getting better and better. I hope Syd finds Aiden soon. “Did you run over your husband, too?” My mouth gapes open before I snap it shut. I giggle to myself, wondering what she would say if I said yes. She stares at me with a serious gaze.

“Um…no.” I shake my head. “I didn’t. I kicked some guy’s ass who sexually assaulted me.”

“Good for you.” She jumps up on her feet. I sit up straighter against the cold cement wall, wondering if she’s going to come over to me. “See, us girls need to stick together. Men are all assholes,” she yells down the hallway.

“Sit down, Barb,” a male’s voice says from around the corner.

“Fuck you, Nate,” she replies and sits back down.

I know I’m going to regret asking, but it seems I don’t have anything better to do. “So, Barb, tell me why you ran over your husband.”

Chapter eighteen

Aiden

“Come on, Aiden, just one lap dance,” Damon says, holding up some dollar bills. He’s been begging me for the last hour. Like I told Addison before, she’s the only woman I want in my lap tonight. Seeing these naked women hasn’t changed my mind. “We just have half an hour left before we have to meet the women.”

I groan and look up to the ceiling. He’s never going to shut up. “Fine. One dance.” I hold up my finger. Max chuckles and shakes his head. “What, asshole?”

He shrugs. “I just remember a time when you couldn’t get enough of that…” He points to the girls.

I nod my head and smile. “Times have changed.”

He grabs my shoulder. “That they have, brother.” I look around and see Damon talking to a brunette woman. I can’t deny that’s she beautiful. Beautiful boobs and a great body, but she doesn’t even come close to how beautiful Addison is. I make a mental note to take a shower before we go to our room tonight.

I see Max pull out his phone and his expression hardens. “Max!” Ryker screams at us from across the room, throwing his hands out. A girl grinds against his lap. He looks bored, obviously more interested in Max than the girl. “We said no phones until we meet up with the girls.”

“We have to go. Now.” He stands and pulls out his wallet.

“What’s wrong?” I say, standing. He pulls out five hundred-dollar bills and throws them on the table. When he looks back to me, he shakes his head. “That’s not a fucking answer, Max.”

The other guys have stood up and are waiting for Max’s answer, as well. Damon pulls our waitress over and tells her we’re leaving. Ryker adds a few more hundred-dollar bills to the stack. The waitress picks up the money, blows a kiss to Ryker, and walks off.

“The girls are waiting outside for us.” My eyebrows shoot up. Why? He’s not going to tell me, so I take long strides toward the front door. Something’s wrong, and I need to find out what it is. Now.

I slam the front door open and walk out into the open air. It’s not any better out here than it is inside. At least inside it’s air conditioned. I spot the girls in a huddle. There are two who I don’t recognize. The only one I don’t see is Addison. What. The. Fuck.

“Where the hell is Addison?”

Syd jumps at my voice. “Aiden, calm down.” I look at Syd’s tear-streaked face, and I stop walking.

“Sydney,” I warn. The guys catch up and stand around the girls. I look at Sydney’s hands and she’s holding Addison’s shoes. I fist my hand. “Tell me. Now!” I demand forcefully. The new girls jerk back.

“She’s okay,” Max says to my side. I glare at him.

“How the fuck do you know she’s okay?” I seethe.

“I texted him,” Syd says, stepping forward. Damon looks at her, hurt. “I tried to call you, babe. I tried to call you, too,” she says, looking at me. I exhale loudly and nod. I guess it’s a good thing Max didn’t listen to the “no phones” rule.

“Addison got arrested,” Syd says, wincing. I straighten my back and cross my arms, looking down at Syd.

“What? Why?”

“The details are still a little unclear.”

“What the hell does that mean, Sydney,” Jaxon says.

“We were dancing. Some guy grabbed me and Addison pulled me away.” She stops and watches me closely. I nod for her to continue. “As we were walking away, he grabbed her and pulled her into his chest.” I close my eyes. Please tell me she didn’t kill a guy. When I open them, Syd continues. “He wouldn’t let her go. So…she kicked his ass.”
