“Send the jet.” I didn’t even recognize my own voice.

“But boss, what if you need to—”

“Send the jet, Rodrigo.” The ice in my voice was not for him. It was directed at me; I was the one at fault. “The woman just lost her son because he was doing work I had assigned to him. The least we can do is make this period of her life as painless as possible. Send the jet and organize the funeral. Whatever she needs, get it for her.”

He gave me a curt nod and turned to go do as I instructed.

I ran a tired hand down my face. This was just great.

I stood in the hallway for a second, trying to collect my raging emotions.

He felt bad about the warehouse… He wanted to catch the culprits for you…

The initial shock and sadness went away, and all that I could feel at the moment was the anger that was directed at only one person.

Savina.

She was the one who had blown up the fucking warehouse in the first place. If it hadn’t been for her, Danny would be alive right now and Sebastian would still be here.

I had told my father that this woman would only bring omens our way, and it had already started, not even a day into my marriage.

The anger filled my blood with no way to escape and the only person I wanted to see right now was my wife.

I stormed back into the room and found the bed empty. I heard the sound of the water closing.

She was in the bathroom.

I didn’t waste time. I stormed into my bathroom, not caring if she was naked or not. I needed to have this out with her. I barged through the door, the wood slamming against the marble tiles. Savina jumped, not expecting me to just come in like that. She had a towel around her body and a toothbrush in her hand.

“What the hell? Do you not know what knocking is?” She glared at me. “I get that we are married, but we still have—”

I closed the distance between us and grabbed her throat with my right hand. I walked her backward until her back hit the cold tiles. Her eyes went wide and she dropped her toothbrush from her hand.

“What the hell?”

“It’s your fault.” The venom in my voice tasted bitter in my mouth. “You’re the fucking reason why!”

“What are you on?” She tried to claw at my hands. “Let go of me!”

My grip on her throat tightened. “They’re dead because of you.”

“Who?” Her nails dug into my skin but my grip all tightened. “I didn’t kill anyone. Let me go, you asshole!”

I barred my teeth at her. “You took out my warehouse and Ethan went looking at the fucking Russians, Baratelli, and now Danny is dead. You got him killed. And you had to get your hands involved with Sebastian, so I had to kill him!”

Her body stilled; her mouth hung open in an O shape as she stared at me.

“What are you talking about?” Her words strained out of her mouth, the construction coming from my hand stealing the breath from her lungs. “Let… let… go.”

I didn’t want to. The anger that I felt toward her was far too intense right now. I had all of this pent-up pain that needed to find a release, and she was the closest thing to me. She had been the catalyst, the match stick that started the blaze.

“Andres…” Her eyes watered, the tears making her eyes glisten. I knew that they were not tears of fear. They were for lack of air. The red on her face deepened the longer I held on.

If I continued like this, she would die. All these plans and this entire arrangement would have been for nothing. But I wanted her to die for her sins.

A life for a life. Those were the rules that I played by. She needed to give me what was owed to her.

“An…” Her eyes fluttered open and closed. The oxygen dwindled from her body with each passing second. “…dres…”
