“There you are,” he said, warmth infused in his voice. “I can’t believe it’s you.”

She chuckled. “Did you not know you were coming here?”

“No.” he turned, sitting on the bed without letting her go so she ended up straddling his lap. “I suppose this is mother’s attempt at rewarding me for behaving. Or maybe she’s reminding me what I have to lose if I don’t keep behaving.”

Sandy shrugged, running her hands all over him. “I don’t really care what your mother is up to, if we’re being perfectly honest.”

“Of course you’re not.”

“It’s good to see you again.”

“Sandy.”

“Hm?”

“Why is there a hole in the wall?”

“Oh, I just thought it would really spruce the place up. Never know when you’ll need a convenient wall hole, am I right?”

He laughed, resting his forehead against hers. “Ah, how I’ve missed your sass.”

“Tell me everything that’s happened recently. How are the championships going?”

No one told her anything. Not even if Rane won his games or not. For all she knew, they’d already finished the last game, come home the winners, and had the victory parade. Did this place have a victory parade? A huge sports victory would prompt one back on Earth, she was pretty sure, but she didn’t know if it would here.

But win or lose or whatever, she wanted to hear everything Rane had been up to since they were separated.

It was good to just hear his voice as he obliged her. He described the games they’d played like he was a sports announcer. It wasn’t quite play-by-play, but it was close, and she found herself laughing and cheering along with him.

It didn’t escape her notice that he didn’t tell her anything else. Either there was nothing else happening, or he didn’t want her to know. She rather hoped it was the former and that Elffa, satisfied in her victory, would finally leave him alone.

But she only spared her wicked mother-in-law a few seconds thought before forcibly shoving her to the back of her mind and focusing on Rane.

“So, you don’t know the occasion?” She asked, stroking her fingers up and down the nape of his neck as she leaned back on his lap.

“No. But I’m not going to question it for now. I’m just so happy to see you again. You’re safe, right? You’re not hurt anywhere?”

“Yes, I’m safe. My fingers are a bit sore from digging in the wall, but that’s not really Elffa’s fault.” She sighed exaggeratedly. “I am likely to achieve Nirvana if I keep up all this meditation though.”

He chuckled. “What is Nirvana?”

“I’m not one hundred percent sure, but I think it’s like this thing where you lose all your worldly attachments and grow beyond such basic needs as hunger and sexual desire. And wouldn’t that just be a tragedy?”

“Oh, we can’t have that,” he said, lifting her up.

Sandy cried out in surprise, then laughed when he dropped her onto her mattress and rose over her, covering her laugh with an eager kiss.

Weeks apart, not a single word or text passed, crashed into them all at once as the playfulness and surprise and confusion all faded to be replaced by burning desire. This time, there was no sense that they had to procreate for his freedom, nor the heated need of aphrodisiac enhanced desire. It was only them and the relief at their reunion.

That translated into quick and frantic movements as they rushed to dispose of their clothing without breaking their kiss any longer than strictly necessary.

There was no build up, no foreplay. When he shoved her legs apart and placed his face between them, his licking was more about creating wetness than bringing her pleasure. And she didn’t want it either. The only thing she wanted was to feel that closeness, that intimacy, of connection. She grabbed his feathers and yanked because she wanted it hard and fast and now.

But he was determined to get her at least slightly prepared. She should probably appreciate his consideration considering the size of him, but she could only writhe and beg-

“Rane! Please! Hurry!”

What if something happened? What if he was taken away again? It felt like it was suddenly vital that he get inside her so she could lock all her limbs and keep him from ever being taken from her again.
