Tugging my arm, she led me out of the restroom, and I wasn’t sure whether to be furious she’d disrupted my argument with Delphine or impressed that she’d fought my battle by her sudden attack of loyalty toward me.

“Bitch,” she mumbled, side-eyeing me.

“Where did you come from?”

“I must have gone to the loo right after you, but I didn’t know you were there until I heard you talking.”

“I was handling her fine without you.”

“I know, but it did you good for her to know that you’re not on your own. She’ll try again, bitches like that don’t just fade away, but you’ll see her coming next time.”

“Since when did you grow up so fast?”

“You forget I live in central London these days. A sharp tongue and fast wits are essential attributes in order to thrive there.”

I pulled her in for a hug as Bernie wandered over to me. Since we’d arrived, she’s practically ignored me, and I felt my guard rise again as she approached.

“She got to you in the restroom, didn’t she?”

“Who?” I asked in a pretence at innocence.

“Delphine. She’s Ticker’s cousin, by the way. It’s been a fulltime job keeping her busy all night. I did my best to keep her from ruining your first gig, but she was hell bent on having words with you. The girl sees herself married to Jamie with three kids and a Labrador. I spoke to her about you and warned her to leave you alone.”

“I’m glad you told me, Bernie, because after seeing you with her today, I was questioning our friendship.”

“Usually, Delph is a fun girl, unless it comes to Jamie. Although your boyfriend has been guilty of giving her false hope by inviting her to functions. But I always said to Paddy, Jamie was oblivious to the crush she had on him.”

“Okay, if we keep talking about her, I really will let her ruin my night. Thanks for having my back…” I glanced from Bernie to my sister, “both of you.”

Chapter 16

Instead of Jamie coming back to the dressing room, all of us still present in there were herded into the hospitality suite. All the band’s fans had left, including Lottie, and as soon as I entered the room, Jamie came over beside me.

“All I feel I’ve done this weekend is leave you waiting for me.”

“I guess that’ll be part of my life if we’re going to stay together,” I replied, accepting this as a reality. Hadn’t he shown the same patience when I’d had to work?

"There’s no ‘if’ about it, Daisy, you’re going nowhere,” he replied with a certainty that made my heart beat faster.

His arms circled my waist, and he drew me against his body. His adoring gaze made me swoon and I couldn’t help thinking that one day I would wake up from this dream.

“I wish we were in bed right now. We have so little time and I have so many sinful thoughts running through my mind of all the dirty fantasies I’ve yet to play out.”

My toes curled in my boots, and my core pulsed at his declaration. I wasn’t sure which was hotter, his words or them being spoken in his slightly hoarse seductive tone from singing for a couple of hours straight. Not caring who was watching, Jamie tugged back my hair and planted small kisses up my neck.

“Fuck,” he cussed, dragging his lips from my neck to my mouth. He pressed a kiss to my lips and mumbled against them. “Baby, having you here…” he huffed out a breath and swallowed. “I dunno, life is just so much easier when you’re near me,” he confessed. My heart swelled that despite time and distance, Jamie’s feelings for me were as strong as they’d been before I’d gone to the US for Thanksgiving.

“Jamie, best gig yet,” a slender tall brunette husked as she somehow pushed herself between us and threw her arms around him. Jamie looked a little uncomfortable as he patted her upper back with one hand and peeled her away from him.

“Thanks, Beverley,” he said, flatly. “You haven’t met my lady yet. Daisy, Beverley, Beverley, Daisy,” he informed us. “Beverley is our label’s CEO’s daughter.”

I was met with another look of distain and I figured this would become a familiar theme for me, being the woman most others wanted to be. I couldn’t allow myself to feel I wasn’t worthy and glanced adoringly up at Jamie, giving her a show of strength in the love we shared between us. Jamie kissed the end of my nose.

“So this is the new woman,” she grated with a tired tone that implied I was just another in a long line of Jamie’s conquests. And you are another jealous bitch like Ticker’s cousin Delphine. I had a mind to retort. But I’d never have stooped so low.

“Nothing new about Daisy, we’ve been together almost a year. Which hasn’t been nearly long enough,” my boyfriend stated, coming to my rescue. “Trust me, this girl is going nowhere… not that it’s any of your concern. Now if you’ll excuse us, we have some mingling to do.”

“You handled her very well,” I praised looking up, expecting him to smile back.
