“Tell Scout to hurry up so we can take this to my bed.”

She turned in my arms, her hands traveling up my chest to circle around my neck. “I love you, Colton.”

Her tone was thick with emotion.

“I love you too.” That familiar panic threatened to set in, but I distracted my thoughts by kissing her, getting lost in her sweetness.

My hand drifted under her shirt, nothing between my palm and her breast but a thin sports bra. “I want this off.”

I wanted to pull her top off, but we were outside. Even if I didn’t have close neighbors, I wouldn’t expose her.

I whistled for Scout, a sharp one I used when I wanted him to listen.

Remi jumped a little, startled by the sound. I soothed her, running my hand down her side. “Come on. I need you.”

I grabbed her hand, pulling her inside and locking the slider before lifting her in my arms. I couldn’t get her to my bed fast enough.

I tumbled onto the bed with her underneath me. I meant to go slow, but I needed to counteract the racing thoughts in my head. The uncertainty mixed with need. The worry wrapped in hopefulness. I needed her to sort it out, to soothe my soul. To remind me that all I needed was her.

Remi seemed to sense my energy, ripping at my clothes while I pushed her leggings down and her shirt up. She helped take the rest of her clothes off while I moved off her to remove mine. When she was naked on the bed before me, her hair out of the bun and spread out over the sheets, I knew she was it for me.

“I love you,” I breathed.

“I love you too.” She reached for me. Helpless to deny her anything, I didn’t hesitate in moving over her, licking and sucking every inch of her skin. Needing her more than the air I breathed, I lifted her hips, settling between her legs and guiding my cock inside her. She brushed my hand away, helping me, reminding me we were in this together.

Sliding inside her felt different this time. It was still overwhelming and amazing, but it was more, a coming home of sorts, a knowing I was right where I was supposed to be. Ignoring the spare thought that I should talk to her about what was going on in my head, I braced my hands on either side of her and thrust to the hilt, letting her surround me with her goodness, her warmth, and her love.

I dropped my head down, pausing as she clenched around me. “You feel so good. Impossibly good.”

Too good to be true. Impossible that she was mine.

She touched my face, then kissed me. “I love you, Colton.”

“I love you.” Then I was moving, chasing that feeling I only ever got with her. I forgot about everything else: the worries, the dread, the sense that something was off.

It was just us being together that mattered. Nothing else.

I flipped her onto her stomach; with a hand wrapped around her waist, I pulled her onto her knees, entering her from behind again. I felt so much deeper this way. I felt even closer to her as I set a pounding pace. She pushed back on my cock, not seeming to mind that I was a little rougher than usual. I reached around, circling her clit, sending her over a split second before I followed. Collapsing on top of her, I enjoyed the feel of her soft skin under mine. Rolling us to the side, I held her tight.

She rested a hand over my arm around her waist. She lifted my hand, kissing it before relaxing. When her breathing evened out, I was wide awake, my heart racing. The feelings and thoughts I’d tried to outrun were still here. Forgotten for a few blissful minutes, but back in full force. What if I couldn’t be there for her when she needed me?

Chapter Twenty-Five

REMI

The next morning, I was flying high on the success of the fundraiser. Everything had gone smoothly, and we’d raised a significant amount of money for the foster program. The meditation demonstration was well-received, and I was hoping people would be interested in more classes.

After opening the store, Shae stopped by before she opened her studio and ordered a smoothie, saying, “I’m wondering if you’d like to offer an introductory meditation class. It would be a one-time program to see if there’s interest. If there is, maybe you could offer an ongoing class.”

“I’d love that. I was going to suggest something similar to you because I don’t have any room for classes here, and I enjoyed leading the meditation.” I’d gotten this energy from it that far exceeded me doing it on my own.

“Yay! I’m so excited about this. I have your juices set up in the cooler you ordered.”

“I really appreciate you giving me a chance.” Pouring the smoothie into a to-go cup, I handed it to her along with a straw.

“I feel like it’s the other way around. I’m the new business in town. What do I owe you?” she asked, rifling through her purse for her wallet.

I smiled at her. “This one’s on the house. We’re discussing business.”
