Just being near her filled me down to my soul with anticipation because I had found her completely intoxicating. Especially when every glance she gave me during that time had alluded to the possibility of more.

“Let’s not pretend we don’t know exactly how this is going to go,” I replied, my voice concise and controlled.

Tricia grinned and raised her eyebrow because I’d called her out. In the weeks before she hadn’t been shy in creating opportunities to rub up against me every chance she got. Once she’d squeezed past me, skimming her body from chest to hips across mine and I was hard at the time. She had grinned wickedly, letting me know she’d noticed.

On that occasion my palm had ghosted the shape of her hip, a fraction of an inch away from grabbing her, before my fingers curled tight in a fist and I let her brush past. The frustration in my chest from that near miss had felt painful. It reminded me of my teenage days, days when I grew hard at the mere hint of something sexual.

At forty-three, Tricia looked nothing like her age, and could have easily passed for a woman in her early to mid-thirties, and from what I had gathered in conversation she was fiercely independent. Under normal circumstances she would have been a welcome challenge for me. But since my dealings with Charlotte, and all the manipulations she put me through, I had felt a little less eager to give my attention to complicated women like Tricia.

It had been a while since I’d put myself out there and I felt my sexual performance may have been a little under par since then, but then again, perhaps the effect on my libido had been Charlotte herself. At one time, a thought like that would never have entered my head, but that was before I’d encountered Charlotte and she had triggered my mistrust in women.

Yet, even with all my misgivings and concerns that night as I walked Tricia up to her room, my resistance had gone, overtaken by the powerful addiction to that sexual chemistry we both had fought passionately to ignore until then.
