TWENTY-EIGHT

Shaw

It’s beensince I was a teenager that I’ve been to this park. It’s still just as cool, even after all the kid rides. Mason’s eyes are lit up at everything we pass as he walks in between Summer and I, holding both of our hands. Summer bought him a cool hat with floppy ears and now and then, he will bark like a dog. We decided we would spend the better part of the day at the park and then head back to the hotel for more swimming. Once we ended our day, Mason wasn’t even interested in swimming, but decided as soon as we finished dinner, he was going to bed.

So much excitement. Such a little body.

Summer and I have a few drinks out on our balcony for a bit, then we make out a little more before falling asleep.

Another day at the park, filled with excitement, then more back at the hotel pool. We told Mason that he could stay up late and watch a movie with us, but as soon as the movie began, he was out for the night.

It’s been hard to keep my interactions friendly with Summer over the past few days, especially after the kid goes to bed. It’s been awhile since I’ve gone to bed with a massive case of blue balls, let alone for two days in a row. Over the years I’ve had enough dirty thoughts about Summer to last a lifetime in the spank bank, it’s just now that I’ve had a taste, I want her all the time.

Tonight, I have one hand under her shirt, cupped around her tit when suddenly Mason bolts up into bed. We pull apart so fast that I fall off the bed. Mason didn’t see a thing, as he has a vacant look in his eyes, but that jump starts my heart a little. He hasn’t asked why Summer and I have slept in the same bed, but then again, he really doesn’t seem to care. He knows that we’re in a relationship, but I’m not completely sure he knows what that means. Summer has been in his life since day one, and he loves her. He’s used to her being around, and even more so now that she lives with us.

A thought that occurred to me when we first told him was that I was scared that he would look at her differently, but he hasn’t. In fact, he’s always looked to her like she holds a special kind of magic, kind of like I have. They’ve been thick as thieves since his earliest memory, and I hope that never changes.

Today, we start the day out with breakfast with some characters, and then went back to the park for our last day of fun. We leave the park and head back to the hotel for a quick swim before we drive back home.

Mason is in the backseat watching the scenery as we drive and my hand is nonchalantly on Summer’s knee.

“When are you guys going to get married?” Mason asks.

I’m not entirely sure how I don’t get into a car accident at that moment as Summer and I both look to one another with wide eyes.

“What makes you ask that, sweetie?” Summer turns her body and looks back at him.

“Because I’ve known you forever, and I heard mommy say that you guys deserve one another or something,” he replies.

“Well buddy, Summer and I haven’t talked about stuff like that yet.” I say, looking into the rearview mirror to see him.

“Why not? Then I can have two moms.” He looks up and meets my eyes in the mirror with a smile.

“We’ll figure that out if the time comes. But what do you think about Summer and I being more than friends?”

“It would just be the same with mommy and her boyfriend. One day, Connor will just be another daddy of mine.”

I gulp down the horrible thought. I don’t want to think of it like that, I’m his only father.

“You just have double the amount of people that love you, little man.” Summer grins at him.

Upon getting home from the trip, there’s an envelope in the mailbox waiting for me. I look at the sender and notice it’s from the courthouse.

I hold my breath as I open the envelope.

I read the contents and see the court date is set and my stomach immediately feels like it’s doing somersaults. This is what I wanted. I wanted to get more time with my boy and Marie is fighting everything that I am putting out there. This will be okay. I’ve got the support of Summer and I know that everything will be okay.

Right?
