“Can I ask you a question?” I start. “This new partnership, this dating one another, are you ready for that, or is this something to get over Colin?” I take a deep breath.

She pulls away from me, faces me and grabs my hand. “Shaw, I would never use you as a rebound. You are too important to me to be something to toss away.”

“I just, Summer, I just, this thing is something that I’ve thought about over the years. The ‘what ifs’ about you and me. And I just don’t want to be a fleeting moment in your timeline.”

“You will never be a fleeting moment, or something that is not monumental. I mean it, you can trust me with this. I’ve thought a lot about what this means between us and I don’t think that either of us would be careless with one another in that capacity.”

“Monumental, eh?” I say with a smile.

“Were you just fishing for a compliment?” She asks.

“Not at all, but it’s a bonus that I got one out of the conversation that’s been weighing on my mind.”
