Chapter Fifteen

“I can’t fucking believethat you’ve been hiding that you’re dating someone from us!” Shane says so loud that people at nearby tables give us dirty looks.

“It’s not like it’s anything serious. I met him at the gym, and he helped me with my grip on a few of the machines. We’ve only been dating for like a month. That’s far too soon to know how serious it is.” Olivia blushes.

“Oh, I bet that he helped you with your machines alright.” Shane nudges my elbow and winks while I enjoy the roosting of our friend. “Right?”

“Don’t be such a perv. He was a total gentleman up until our fourth date,” she rests her chin in her hand and looks off to the side.

“Is that when he let his freak flag fly? He showed you how strong he really was?” Shane continues.

“That’s when we finally did it.” Olivia leans in and whispers.

“Wait, what? You waited to do the dirty?” Shane asks.

She looks between the both of us, who are eager to hear her answer.

“Well duh, what did you think that I would do, sleep with him on the first date?”

“Uh, yeah. Isn’t that the normal?” I quip in.

“No, I’ve grown and have learned to make a man wait for the good stuff, after all, why give it away so quickly?”

“Duh, so you can test out the handlebars and make sure they work.”

“I don’t ride handlebars the way you do.” She rolls her eyes.

“Only handlebar mustaches sweetie.” Shane says.

“I like me a good mustache ride, what about you Sidney? What’s new in your world? I feel like we haven’t gone for after work drinks in forever. Are you dating someone too?” Olivia asks.

I look between my two friends and wish that I could just tell them that I’m falling in love with our boss. That more than often, I’m sleeping in his bed than mine. But I can’t, at least not yet.

“Boyfriend? Oh no, who has time for that anyways?” I say flippantly.

“Um, us! We all do.” They say in unison.

I roll my eyes and smile. “Guys, I don’t have time to date, I’m busy enough without a man clouding my judgement.”

They seem to buy it, until I get a text. I pull it out of my purse and look down at the message.

Q: Wishing you were here.

I smile, unknowingly—then all eyes are on me again.

“You do have someone!” Olivia points across the table at me.

“I do not,” I push back.

“Then who would be making you smile, like they just complimented you?”

“My roommate.” I reply quickly.

“Let me see,” Shane holds out his hand.

“Get over it. I don’t think we’ve talked about you Shaners, who is keeping you warm at night?” I try to direct the conversation elsewhere.

“I’m working on myself right now, I don’t need me a man. Besides, I’m just waiting until Mr. Montgomery learns that he’s truly into men and come knocking on my door.”
