“How do you know? Every fierce and powerful boss has a secret and maybe his is that he’s a closet gay. I mean, have you seen the man’s clothes? Who dresses that well and not be into dicks?”

I laugh quietly and sit back in my chair. “I’ve been in his office, there are no photos that really show his taste is romance. So, sure you could be right on point and he’s gay. But I’m pretty sure that he’s not.”

“Why have you been in his office?” Shane inquires with a grin, obviously unaware of his assistant bursting onto the cubicle floor last week.

“I was just dropping off some paperwork to him, nothing big.” I shrug.

“Speaking of which, is he here today?” Shane asks.

“Why would I know?” I quickly reply.

“I mean you’re hanging out in his office, so you must know.”

“I’ve been in his office once, I don’t have his calendar.”

Shane leans back in his chair, crosses his arms in front of his chest and gives me a knowing look.

“You like him.” He states.

“Do not.”

“Bullshit. You’re pretty clear that he’s straight, you had zero reaction when I told you that I think he’s hot. You like him too.”

“You’re crazy.” I shake my head.

“I am not.”

“Why is she crazy? Is she trying to tell you that the coffee here is delicious?” Quinn’s deep voice says from the side of us, scaring the shit out of me.

“Oh hi, Mr. Montgomery, how are you today?” Shane asks.

“I’m well, Shane, right?” he points to him and appears to not be too sure of his guess. “How are you?”

“Yes. That’s me. And no, Sidney wasn’t trying to convince me about the coffee, she rather dislikes—hey wait, how did you know she didn’t like the coffee?” Shane looks back and forth between us.

“Lucky guess,” Quinn says quickly. “Besides, haven’t you had it? It’s not the greatest. I should probably change that, huh?”

“I’m pretty sure that would earn you some huge points. Mr. Williams was religiously a Folgers guy and the coffee that showed up here was always stale.” Shane replies.

I watch the two talk and see that Quinn is smiling during the entire conversation, he’s showing interest and keeping eye contact. He doesn’t allude that he’s the head honcho here, he’s getting on Shane’s level. Then he turns his eyes to me, and I snap out of the spell that I was under.

“You okay?” Quinn asks.

“Yeah, I’m good, sorry. I was off in another world. What did you say?”

“I was going to say that I checked out the botanical garden, and you were right. I felt like I was imposing on someone else’s world totally.” He smiles.

“Good, I’m glad you got a chance to check it out,” I reply.

“Well, I will let you two get back to it. Good to see you guys.” He says with a short wave and turns on his heel.

Shane and I both watch him leave and I sigh.

“Yeah, you don’t like him. Definitely not with that longing sigh when he walked away. Also, what the what was up with the botanical gardens?”

“Huh? Oh, shut up.”

“Seriously, you two are talking about places to go to. Are you guys going to these places together or something?”
