There’s no use in hiding my proud beam.

“And it makes sense for me – career wise – with Calen changing over to veterinary in the coming weeks as well as not being able to be – legally – in the field until our little pup is born.”

“Is pup gonna be my niece or nephew’s nickname?”

“Nephew,” Bryn firmly declares despite not knowing that to be true, “and probably not. It’s just our placeholder until we start looking at names.”

“I understand child names are completely up to you two, but are uncle nicknames up for debate?”

“Calen asked me the same shit.”

Our son or daughter is lucking out in that department.

Relatively speaking.

While I plan to do everything I possibly can to warmly welcome Monica into the Wilcox family, she hasn’t exactly made it easy.

Baiting me into this public haranguing.

Bribing my future wife’s boss into regurgitating private and personal incriminating information.

Belittling each fucking decision my brand has made in every aspect of business.

The woman is a menace.

However, through therapy exercises and fatherly advice from Clark – who is currently helping Lauren prepare a get to know you meal for us all at their home – I am going to persist in trying to develop a relationship with her if that’s what she wants.

In her mind…she’s been rejected her entire existence.

I just happen to be the only one alive for her to seek penance from.

Would it be great if my son or daughter got to refer to her as Aunt Monica?

Sure.

Do I think that’s likely?

Not at all.

Which is quite alright.

Vanessa will play the role fantastically.

She’s already shopping for “tamer” playing at the park clothing.

And as for uncles, J.T. and Calen absolutely have that covered.

Taking into account the allegiance and dedication Calen provided my fiancée in my absence, it’s safe to assume, he’s trustworthy, and once you add in the not so ideal threat, he made to me at this past Thursday, I have no doubts that he has what it takes to protect his future niece or nephew from whatever the world throws at them.

I may not love their relationship, but I respect it.

Them.

Him.

I owe the guy more than I had the opportunity to express at the event, so I’m hoping after his educational program sends him an email to confirm his entire tuition has been paid in full that he understands my deep gratitude.

If that doesn’t do it, perhaps getting an alert that he’s now completely debt free might.
