“Sure.” Liv gives me a knowing smile. “Whatever you say.”

“Shh.” I elbow her as David and Ed pick up our drinks and turn away from the bar.

“Fine. But at least admit that Jet’s been good for your writer’s block.”

“Getting on a plane again was good for my writer’s block.” I lean back into the leather booth seat and blow out a breath. “Although I’m questioning why I decided to write it in the first place.”

“You need this. Your therapist suggested it years ago.”

“I know.” I scrub a hand over my forehead. “And it feels good to finally do it. It’s just dredging up old feelings, that’s all.”

“The nightmares?” Concern fills Liv’s eyes.

“A couple. Nothing major.”

I smile gratefully at Ed as he reaches our booth and hands me a drink. David drops beside Liv, and the four of us break into easy chatter. I laugh at their jokes, relishing the feeling of being carefree for an evening.

“Thanks,” I whisper, closing the car door as quietly as I can before waving Ed off.

I creep in the back door, removing my heels, and walk barefoot down the dark hallway, past the old staircase, and into the kitchen. I grab a juice from the fridge, pulling the lid off to take a deep gulp as I swing the door shut.

“Fuck!”

Jet is standing behind it like something from a slasher movie.

“Where the hell did you come from?”

“I was sitting on the back stairs.” He walks over to the sink, tipping the remnants of his water away, before turning to me. He’s wearing a pair of sleep shorts low on his hips… and nothing else.

“I walked right past you. You could have said something.” I put the juice back into the fridge. “It’s 2AM. Why are you even up?”

“You’re alone,” he states, staring me down as the moonlight illuminates him from behind through thewindow.

“Liv’s staying at David’s. Ed dropped me off.”

He looks to the side, sniffing and running a hand over his stubbled jaw. “Straight from the club?” Stiffness bunches up his huge shoulders.

“Yeah.”

“How many men did you talk to tonight?” He pins me under his piercing gaze. A bolt of excitement fires in my gut.

“At least twenty,” I lie.

The air he sucks in through his nose makes a sound that cuts through the room, and I soak it in, reveling in the way his brows channel into a deep V.

“Did any of them buy you a drink?”

“Some.” I shrug. “I lost count.” I lean back against the counter.

“Did you like any of them?”

“Yeah, I did. They were all hot.” I level my eyes with his as he walks toward me.

“Did you picture yourself sucking their dicks?” he hisses, stopping in front of me.

I bite the inside of my cheek, keeping my expression neutral. “I did better than that. I had an orgy, right in the middle of the dancefloor. Ed started it off, and then four other guys joined in. I ran out of places to take them all at the same time.”

A shot of adrenaline explodes up my spine as Jet pounces, sliding his hand around my throat and pushing me back into the counter.
