Getting ready this morning in my old bedroom, I stared at the picture on the wall. The picture I willed myself to remember when I was lost in the forest, to pretend I was home. And safe.

It was of a glowing beach.

I’m not sure how much I believe in fate. But looking at it this morning as I stepped into my wedding dress made my breath catch. I always meant to visit it one day. I know it. I just didn’t know I’d be falling in love with a man who claimed love was a game he’d never play when I did go there.

“Your father would be so proud of you,” Gramps says as he leads me around the large stately home and to the rear lawn to where everyone is waiting.

Liv looks back from in front of us, holding her bridesmaid’s bouquet in her hand.

“He would, Bitch.”

I laugh as she grins at me, effectively halting potential make-up wrecking tears in their wake with her words.

“I love you both.”

“We love you, too,” she replies.

We reach the bottom of the aisle and heat hits me like a force, making the air whoosh from my lungs.

“I hope he’s going to at least try and smile for the photos,” Gramps mutters.

I meet Jet’s dark, burning gaze. I can’t help but smile. He’s glowering at me like he’s mad.

My core buzzes to life in response. I’m guessing he found my gift.

We walk up the aisle behind Liv. Even some of the guests are starting to look puzzled at the intensity on Jet’s face.

But I can’t keep the smile off mine.

He shakes Gramps’s hand as we reach the top of the aisle, nodding at him, before his eyes immediately return to me. The heat in them makes goosebumps dance up my spine as I kiss Gramps and hand my flowers to Liv to hold.

“Ava,” he clips under his breath the moment we’re left standing facing one another.

“Jet.”

One dark brow hitches in question and I nod.

“Goddamn.” He exhales, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Let’s make this quick,” he says to the minister.

I bite back my laugh as there is a confused rumble from the guests.

“The shortest version you’ve got,” he snaps, glancing at the minister, a man who now looks positively petrified.

Jay leans forward and says something in Jet’s ear, but he shakes his head, muttering back,“She knows why.”

His eyes return to mine, pinning me in place as we repeat our vows to one another. Jet delivers them perfectly, the intensity in his gaze racking higher and higher with each word. Until they’ve all been spoken.

“You may now kiss your—”

Jet’s mouth is on mine before the minister finishes, causing a ripple of laughter through our guests. Heholds my face in his hands kissing me the way he did when I ran to him in the airport after six months apart.

Then he pulls away and grabs my hand, turning and pulling me back down the aisle.

I smile at our guests as he strides along, taking me with him. Some of them look puzzled, but the ones that know him well don’t seem fazed. Hayden even gives me a knowing smile.

“Ava,” Jet barks, willing me to hurry up.

“I have five-inch heels on,” I retort.
