“Well, look who’s a natural,” I comment, celebrating her happiness.

She shrugs, smug and charming in the way only she can be. “Beginner’s luck.”

Luck or not, she’s landing more wins than anything else. As the afternoon wears on, her “beginner’s luck” kicks in and she ends up catching twice as many fish as me.

“I can’t believe this is your first time fishing,” I say, mock exasperated as I unhook yet another successful catch of hers.

“I’m a fast learner.” Lyric wiggles her eyebrows and tosses her hair, and I can’t resist pulling her close for a kiss.

“I already know that.” I smile against her lips. I can’t remember a time in my life when I've been happier or more at ease than I am today.

Eventually, we settle back onto the wharf, letting our poles rest for a while as we soak in the sun’s warmth. Lyric sits next to me, pulling her knees up, looking completely at home. Our earlier antics melt into a peaceful quiet as we watch the water ripple gently under the soft breeze.

“Thank you for bringing me here,” she murmurs and wraps her soft hand around mine.

I bring her hand to my lips and place soft kisses across her knuckles. “Thank you for spending the day with me.”

“It was the best day.” She snuggles against my side.

“What do you want for dinner?” I admit defeat. At this point, there’s no way I can even come close to catching as many fish as her.

“Pizza.” Her eyes light up. “I’m addicted to First Class Pizza.”

“First Class Pizza it is then.” I hug her close and we stay there a little longer, watching as the sun slowly slips from the sky. Nothing about it feels rushed or forced, everything falling naturally into the rhythm of our makeshift paradise.

As the lightning bugs start to appear, we decide to pack up our picnic lunch and tackle box. Lyric carries her rod, a look of satisfied accomplishment on her face as we retrace our path toward the house.

Coming to Silver Spoon Falls was the best impulsive decision I’ve ever made. Not only did I find the love of my life, but I've also found my favorite fishing partner.

CHAPTER 7

LYRIC

“I’m not ready to go back to work in the morning,” I murmur, staring out Josh’s kitchen window at the moonlight spilling across the pond. We spent all day yesterday fishing from it. We went into town this morning after Harmony dropped off clothes for me, did a little shopping, and had lunch before coming back to spend the afternoon floating around the pond in a little boat.

I can’t remember the last time I was this happy. I feel like I’m living in a fairytale. Albeit, my hot, cranky boss is more Prince Adam than Prince Charming most of the time, but still… the entire weekend has been magical. I don’t want to return to the real world tomorrow and find that all the magic has worn off.

“Working beside you is the best part of my day,” he murmurs, stepping up behind me to slip his arms around my waist. He tugs me back against his chest, running his lips across my temple. “Now, I get to do this while we’re there. There’s no bad here, sweet girl.”

I smile, turning my face up to his. “When you put it that way…”

His lips brush mine in a soft kiss that quickly spirals. Somehow, I end up wrapped around him with his hands on my ass and my back against the sliding glass door.

“I can do this, too,” he growls, slipping his hand between our bodies. He flicks my panties aside with ease, his eyes locked on my face. “And this…”

I gasp, bucking my hips into his hand as his thumb rolls across my clit and one thick finger slips inside me. “Yes,” I moan. “Definitely do that. Don’t ever stop doing that.”

“Thought you’d like it.” He chuckles, kissing the side of my throat.

I cling to him, whimpering his name as he fucks me with his fingers, quickly driving me up the ledge. Right when I’m on the verge of a powerful orgasm, he pauses.

“Look at me, Lyric.”

My eyes flutter as I force myself to focus on him.

“I love you,” he whispers. “That isn’t going to change just because we’re back at work tomorrow.”

My heart flutters at the sincerity in his voice and the softness in his eyes. Why am I even worried about this? Of course, tomorrow isn’t going to change anything between us. We’re finally right where we’ve both wanted to be.
