“Ask me again, please?” I was supposed to say yes!

“Brooke Taylor, I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?”

“Yes. I will marry you,” I smiled as my tears rolled down my face, and he slid the engagement ring on my finger. It felt so cool against my hot body, and he got up from the floor and pressed his lips against mine.

I moaned as I got lost in the kiss mixed with my tears, and he pressed me tightly against his body, thanking me every time he pulled away from the kiss.

“Thank you, Brooke,” he whispered, and I giggled as I pressed my head against his chest as he hugged me.

This was a dream. I was engaged to Asher.

“I thought you hated candles,” I sniffled against him, and he chuckled as he stroked my back gently.

“I did, but if it weren’t for them, you wouldn’t be my fiancée.” I giggled as he squeezed my ass and pressed a kiss on my temple. “I hope you bought that dress?”

“You saw the picture?” I asked, surprised, and he clicked his tongue as he took a deep breath in.

“I almost came to the store and proposed to you there,” he admitted. I laughed as I placed my hands on his chest, eyeing my engagement ring.

The door opened, and Anne entered with Marie, Jax, Matthew, and Elise as they carried a bouquet of flowers and other celebratory items in their hands.

“You were all in on this?” I asked, and Marie gave me an apologetic look. Asher pulled me to him, my back pressed against his front. “I was losing my mind!” When Asher didn’t respond to any of my texts, an insecure part of me thought he was losing interest, but I was incredibly wrong.

“Sorry, Ma!” Anne apologized as she passed me the flowers and hugged me.

“Congratulations to the future Mrs. Stone!” Marie said as they passed me their flowers, and I cried again.

A year ago, I decided to be happy and loved, and here was this dreamy man who had made it a reality for me.

“Thank you so much for getting him off the market; you saved us all!” Jax joked, and we all laughed as Asher chased him around the apartment.

Life was beautiful, and so were all the people in my life. I was so loved by everyone, and I was happy.

Winter. Summer. Fall. Spring. All these seasons came with lessons, but most importantly, they taught me that it was possible for broken people to be loved wholly.

And all this because of a little fire.

Epilogue

Asher

“Do you think I look fat in this dress?” my wife asked as she pulled on her sundress, and I placed my water bottle down.

There were two ways I could answer, and both could be wrong. If I turned to look at her and said no, she would think I was lying. She would still think I was lying if I didn’t turn around and say no.

My eyes found Anne, and she had a grin on her face as she looked at us, amused by her mother’s question, and I gulped.

We had been married for two years, and it wasn’t always easy, but time had flown by quickly. We got married in a small private ceremony with only our closest friends.

Anne was now in elementary school, and I never realized just how much I would cry when I sent her off to the first grade; she had to awkwardly comfort me because I was embarrassing her in front of her friends, but I couldn’t help it; my baby girl was growing up.

Brooke was now the center manager, and I had been promoted to fire chief in the department. With our new jobs and growing family, Brooke and I moved out of our apartment and bought a house in the same neighborhood as Jax.

That was a mistake on my part because Jax would visit every other day and hang out with my wife just because he could. He had quit his job at the department and said all he wanted to do was rest for a while before he found something else to do for fun.

Jax worked for fun! Being a billionaire’s last born was definitely a trick that the rest of us missed when we chose our birth parents.

We had bought a five-bedroom house; two bedrooms were on the first floor, and the other three were on the second floor. When Brooke got pregnant, I suggested—begged—her to let us move to the bedroom downstairs because I didn’t want her to make unnecessary trips up and down the stairs.
