“Xander? Is everything okay?” Miranda asked, sweetening her voice.

She’s still here?

“Xander?” Naomi whispered as she stood in my closet, staring at my jackets. Her fingers touched the jacket, and she nodded as if she’d come to some sort of conclusion.

Whatever conclusion she came to is wrong. I need her to look at me.

“I got what I came for. Thanks for letting me in,” Naomi said as she smiled.

Don’t smile—it breaks my heart. I didn’t like this. I didn’t like this confusion. It was all frustrating and wrong.

“Hi, I’m Miranda,” she chirped as she hugged my arm and put her hand out for Naomi.

“Nao, please,” I whispered. Her eyes finally met mine again. “Can we talk?”

“Hmm?” Miranda tilted her head to the side looking at me. “Is something going on between the two of you?” She looked at Naomi, and I have never shouted at Miranda before, but she really was pushing me now.

Why was she acting this way? Why was she acting so sweet when she really wasn’t?

“Nothing is happening.” Naomi said as she left the bedroom. I stood there, frozen, processing what had just happened.

“Goodbye, Nao,” Miranda sang, and the door closed.

“Don’t call her that,” I whispered into the room, praying Miranda had left as well and Naomi was the one who stayed. But that expensive perfume that wafted into my room again told me how wrong I was.

“What did you say?” She tilted her head as she looked at me.

“Don’t call her that,” I repeated, and she blinked. Putting her finger on her bottom lip, she giggled and swatted my arm. I’m not joking with her.

“Oh, you mean ‘Nao’?” She laughed, and I clenched my jaw as I looked up at the ceiling. She needs to leave my apartment. I wanted nothing to do with her. “Don’t worry about her. I’m here for you. Plus, she’s so young. I didn’t know you were into that,” she whispered as she wrapped her arms around my waist.

I feel sick.

“What do you want?”

“Hmm?” She pressed her chin on my chest as she looked up at me. “I’m calming you down. You like it when I do this.”

I like it? I LIKE IT? What the fuck was wrong with this woman?

“No, Miranda. What do you want from me?” I asked as I pulled her arms away from me and distanced myself from her. I walked out of my bedroom and waited for her to follow after me before I closed the door.

“Xander,” she whispered as she started playing with her fingers. “I’m scared.”

“Scared of what?” I grunted as I put my hands on my waist.

“I don’t want to be alone,” she said, pouting. “I never forgot about you, I always found myself comparing Liam to you, and I was too embarrassed to come back to you. But I’m not afraid anymore, Xander. I love you.”

“Bullshit,” I scoffed. Oh, she is so annoying.

“It isn’t!” She huffed as she took a step toward me, and I raised my hand, stopping her. “I know you love me too. Nao doesn’t matter. You and I—” She pressed her hand onto her chest, and her eyes became teary again. “—we can be together again.”

She should become an actress and maybe try earning income on her own.

“I don’t want to, and I don’t want you.” I shrugged, and she looked shocked.

“Baby, you’re just confused because of Nao. She doesn’t know you. I do.” She was being desperate, and it was time to end this show.

I want her out of my fucking house.
