Ever’s not here, so it’s not a concern right now, but we’re hoping to find her soon. I have to believe that we will get her back, and as much as I want to find her as soon as possible, I don’t want her anywhere near my father. If it means that Ever remains safe, then I will wait longer to find her. Although, if we do find her sooner, then I’ll just kill him if he lays a hand on her, or looks at her funny, or breathes in her direction.

My thoughts should scare me; I know that. They’d probably scare a normal person, but I’ve never claimed to be normal, and I like the dark and everything that goes along with it. I stay where I am, reminiscing about happier times when Ever was with us and what it would be like to have her back until the sun starts to rise, and I realize that I need to head back to the house to shower and get ready for school.

I take a deep breath as I stand and mentally prepare myself for what I might find when I get home; there’s a big chance that he’s stupid enough to call the cops.

When I get there, I’m only mildly surprised that there are no cop cars waiting for me, and I quickly move to the front door, seeing a note pinned there.

Your father is in the hospital. He’ll be home by ten. I’ve gone to brunch, Mother.

That’s it. No more information, no questions, nothing; I tear the note off the door and head inside, making my way up to my room to see that the maids have already been in, and there’s absolutely no sign of my altercation with my father. The note said he would be out by ten, so I can’t have damaged him too badly.

Shame.

It doesn’t take me long to shower and get my shit ready for school, and I’m even on time to wait for Trick outside the gates.

His eyes are sharp as they look at me, and I wonder if he somehow knows.

“Are you okay?” he asks as soon as I’m sat down.

I nod, “Yeah, I’m good.”

“Did you stand up to him?” Trick asks.

“Yeah, he’s not going to be bothering me anymore,” I reply, just as we get to Jensen’s house.

As soon as he jumps into the car, he says, “Dude, I heard about your dad.”

I try not to stiffen or show any reaction to his words as I ask, “You did?”

I feel bad that I haven’t told them, but I decided last night that I will tell them when things calm down a bit after the fight at the Pit. I don’t want to burden them with it now. There’s no point. It’s been dealt with.

“What’s going on?” Trick asks, eyeing me curiously.

Chapter Eight

Jensen

I glance between the two of them. I know that it’s not very far between our houses, but it was long enough.

When it’s clear that Luc isn’t going to say anything, I explain, “My dad says he ran into Luc’s dad at the hospital, and he said he’d gotten into a car accident or something. He had four broken bones. Sounds like it was pretty bad.”

Luc shrugs, “It must’ve happened last night. No one was home this morning.” He then looks back at me with concern, “Is your dad okay?”

I smile, “Yeah, he’s good. He just had to pick up a prescription.”

“Good,” he smiles, before his expression becomes dark. “At least I’ll get a bit of a reprieve if he’s been in an accident.”

Something about his reaction seems off, but I know that he’d tell us if he wanted to so I decide to let it drop.

“Dude, is your face bruised?” I ask as soon as I spot the dark mark on his chin.

“Yeah, I ran into some trouble last night,” he explains, “I needed to get out and went for a walk; some fucker thought he could mug me and caught me on a bad night.”

I chuckle; yeah, I almost feel sorry for whatever fucker thought it was a good idea to try and rob Luc, especially after he’s just got into it with his dad; he’s always a bit more stabby after that.

“He still alive?” Trick asks as he glances down at Luc’s bruised knuckles.

“Yeah, he’s alive; he even walked away,” Luc chuckles.
