“Of course. Email me your notes and we can go through them. I’d love to help you, babe.”

I grab my computer and my fingers fly across my keyboard so I can send Nixon all of my notes as quickly as possible. He used to help me study like this in high school and it was always so much more enjoyable. If I could study for finals like this, it would be more tolerable.

“I got them. Ok, are you ready?”

“Thank you, Nixon. I really appreciate this. I haven’t had anyone else to help me since you left for the military.”

“I'm always here for you, Savvy. No matter what you’re facing, it’s us against the world now.”

Chapter 28

Savannah

I’ve spent the last week studying and packing up my apartment. I'm so focused on getting back home to Nixon, nothing else matters. I don’t care if I have a living room full of boxes because then I know I can leave campus as soon as my finals are over.

Every night I call Nixon and we spend hours on the phone together. He helps me study or keeps me up to date on what’s going on with my parents. He’s so adorable. I love how he’s helping them out at the restaurant whenever they need it. He doesn’t care if he’s bussing tables, in the kitchen, or waiting on customers, he’s just happy to help.

I chuckle to myself and shake my head. Chad would never do any of that. He’d say it was beneath him. I don’t know how I ever thought he’d be a good boyfriend.

Pushing open the door to my car, I grab the box of Chad’s things and climb the steps to his dorm. I don’t know if he’s going to be here, but I'm tired of seeing this box. It’s a memory of all the mistakes I’ve made.

After knocking on his door, I take a step back and wait. A part of me hopes he isn't here. I’d love nothing more than to close this chapter of my life and never see him again. I don’t really have anything to say to him and there’s no way he can repair what happened. We’re over.

The door is tugged open and I find Jeremy, Chad’s roommate, on the other side. Guilt washes over his face immediately and I wonder if he was part of the competition too.

“Hey, Savannah. What’s up?”

“Is Chad here?” I roll my eyes. Obviously, I’m not here to see Jeremy.

“Uh, no. He’s not. Is there anything I can do for you?” He grips the back of his neck and rubs it uncomfortably. He’s always been nice to me, but that means nothing now.

“Yeah, no. I want to be done with Chad, and pretend I never met him. Can you just give this to him?” I thrust the box into his arms and he stumbles back a step.

“Sure, no problem.” He turns to place it somewhere in their room, but he’s right back to the door a second later. “Are you ok?”

“I'm great, Jeremy.” I smile, trying to reassure him. I can't imagine he really cares about me. He probably just wants to know the chances of him getting in my pants.

“Listen, I was never in on it, but I didn’t stop them. I'm sorry.”

“It’s fine. It’s all over and in a few weeks, I’ll never see any of you again.” I wave him off, I don’t really care about what happened anymore. Sure, I feel like a loser and I was judged by the jocks, but it doesn’t matter in the long run.

“Hold on… Chad got a box together of your things. He was waiting for you to show up and told me not to give it to you, but I think you deserve your things. If I were you, I wouldn’t want to see Chad again either.”

He grabs a box from next to the door and lifts it into the air. I try to take it from him but he shakes his head.

“Let me carry it to your car. It’s the least I can do.”

“Ok,” I say softly. I step out of the way and hold the door to the stairwell open for him to go first.

“Please tell me you’re dating that guy.” Jeremy glances at me over his shoulder.

“What guy?” I frown. He knows I'm not dating Chad, so who could he be talking about?

“Whoever was at your parents’ house over Thanksgiving. Chad was still fuming about it when I came back that Sunday. I figure if he pissed off Chad that much, he must’ve been pretty awesome.” Jeremy chuckles.

“I’d rather not tell you anything. I don’t want any details of my life getting back to Chad,” I say as I push through the door to the parking lot.

“I can respect that. If I were you, I’d probably feel the same way.” Jeremy nods his head.
