“Alright, what’s going on?” Donny drops his fork on his plate and watches us carefully.

“Nothing’s going on, Dad.” Savvy rolls her eyes.

“Yeah, ok. You know we weren’t born last night, right?” Carla eyes us with amusement.

“Oh my gosh! Fine! I'm in love with Nixon. Are you happy now?”

“Is this supposed to be news to us?” Donny chuckles, his eyes trained on his daughter. “Sweetheart, you’ve been in love with Nixon your whole life.”

“And he loves me?” She offers with a shrug.

“Keep trying.” Carla shakes her head. “You didn’t actually think his house had bugs, did you? Your father and Nixon concocted this plan just to get the two of you under the same roof.”

“What!” She glares at Donny before turning a stern look on me.

“Hey, now. Don’t go getting mad at me. I needed to get your attention and I didn’t know how to.” When she doesn’t relent, I take her hand in mine and try again. “C’mon, baby. What did you want me to do? If I hadn’t been here when you arrived, you would’ve tried to push me out, especially when Chad got pissed and Devon was flirting with me.”

“Fine,” she groans. “You’re right. I won't get mad.”

“Thank you. I don’t want you to be mad at me.”

Draping my arm around her shoulders, I tug her into my side and press a kiss to her temple. This feels so right. So natural.

“Can you just tell us you’re dating so we can move on with our lives?” Donny sighs.

“Dad!”

“What? We all know that’s where this conversation is headed and we’re all thrilled about it.” He folds his arms across his chest and watches us carefully.

“Fine. We’re dating. Happy?” Savannah pouts.

“I'm thrilled. It’s about time you guys admitted your feelings for each other!” Carla takes a long sip of her coffee, watching us over the rim.

The rest of the day is spent lounging around in each other’s arms. I think we can both feel the unspoken tension in the air. Tomorrow Savvy goes back to school for a few weeks. It’s not the end of the world, but neither one of us wants her to leave now that we’ve admitted our feelings to each other.

“Do you want to come with me?” Savvy peeks up at me.

“Come with you where?” I brush a few strands of hair out of her face and let my fingers graze down her cheek.

“Back to school. I don’t want to leave you,” she whispers.

“I know, but it’s only for a few weeks.”

“You don’t want to come with me?” She pushes off of my chest and glares down at me.

“I do. Babe, I want to be with you more than anything. I planned on trying to get the house together while you were at school so I don’t have to work on it when you come back home. If you’d rather I come with you, I will. You know I want to spend as much time with you as I can.”

“No, it’s fine,” she sighs. “I’ll need to focus on classes and finals anyway.”

“I’ll only ever be a phone call away, you know that.” I tug her back into my arms and press a soft kiss to her lips.

“Ugh, but I don’t want to lose these kisses and cuddles. I can just imagine coming back to my apartment after a long day and laying in your arms while I study.”

“Damn, that sounds kinda perfect. Maybe I will come with you.” I nuzzle my face into the crook of her neck and breathe her in.
