I couldn’t help but laugh the more I thought about what he’d said. “Must be. I guess we will never know,” I replied as he slipped his hand into mine.

We walked hand-in-hand through the empty parking lot of my building to the main door. Hudson waited while I slipped the key into the lock and stepped inside with me. I pressed the button for the elevator, and while we waited, I leaned against the wall and closed my eyes for a moment.

“I had a good time tonight,” he breathed.

I opened my eyes and met his. “Me too,” I whispered.

As we stood there waiting for the elevator, unspoken words passed between us. My heart beat hard, and I felt warm as he brought his hand to my cheek. He leaned in slowly and pressed a light kiss to my lips. He backed away, putting a little space between us. I could feel the heat from his body, warm and soothing. I wanted him to kiss me again. I wanted to feel his lips pressed against mine again.

I was just about to lean forward when the elevator opened.

“There’s the elevator,” he mumbled.

“There it is,” I repeated.

We both stood there, neither of saying a word. When the elevator started to close, he stuck his hand in the door and stepped back, waiting for me to move. I pushed off the wall, and stepped inside, turning back to look at him. As the door started to close, I held my hand over the sensor, reached out and grabbed his shirt and pulled him inside. The world melted away as he forced me up against the elevator wall, pressed his body against mine, and took my mouth with his.

Things had gotten pretty heated between us the night we’d shared that kiss. However, I hadn’t seen Bexley since I left. We’d both been working opposite shifts too, so the only way we’d spoken was through text message, until last night. I’d FaceTimed with her from the cruiser while I took some time to have a coffee and a sandwich. It had been the best part of my week since that night.

Tonight was our third date. I was looking forward to it. I actually couldn’t wait to see her, which was why I’d called her last night.

I walked into the changing room and went to my locker. Joe, Tate, Dax, and Liam all sat there, wrapped in a towel after their showers, talking away about our guys’ night out, which was coming up next Friday.

“’Bout time you got here,” Joe said.

I shook my head. “Some of us had paperwork to finish,” I muttered as my phone vibrated against my locker.

“Paperwork…there is always time for paperwork,” Joe kidded.

Ignoring him, I grabbed my phone and checked my messages. My heart raced at the sight of Bexley’s name.

Bexley: What time are we meeting up?

Hudson: I’ll pick you up at 7

Bexley: See you then. Where are we going again?

Hudson: Thought we’d go for dinner at that restaurant you’d suggested.

I watched for a sign of a reply, but there was nothing. I frowned as I waited. We’d been texting on and off all day, and she’d been answering me almost immediately.

Hudson: If you’d prefer somewhere else, just say so.

Bexley: No, it’s fine.

Hudson: Okay, see you soon.

I grabbed the large towel I’d thrown into my bag this morning along with my toiletry bag I kept in my locker and headed to the showers. Twenty minutes later, I emerged, hoping the guys would be gone by now, but no such luck. They now sat around half-dressed, still talking about Friday.

“Don’t you guys have places to be?” I questioned, feeling somewhat annoyed that they were still here.

“Everly works late tonight at the office,” Joe replied.

“Maya is with her parents at the summer festival. I’m supposed to meet them for dinner in an hour. We leave for the bed-and-breakfast tomorrow.” Liam shrugged.

Then I looked over to Dax and Tate, who both smiled. “What about you?” They asked in unison.
