“It’s great to meet you, Clara. I’m Ethan Gray.” He holds his hand out to shake my hand, but he doesn’t give my hand back after. He continues to hold it.

“Are you here on vacation?” he asks as we start to walk back down the alley toward the main street.

“Yes, it’s a graduation gift from my family.” Ethan is older than me and I hope this information doesn’t make him think I’m too young. “What about you?”

He looks around for a moment before answering. “Not really a vacation, but I am just visiting.”

Confused, I ask him what that means and he tells me about his travels. It sounds like a fun way to live for a while, but I would miss my family like crazy.

Suddenly, Ethan stops and turns to me. “Can I take you to dinner tonight, Clara St. James?”

We’ve been walking together for an hour. Trading stories about our families and places we’d like to travel. I’ve never had such a good time with a man and it kind of sucks that it’s with someone I can’t have a future with. Ethan is clearly still trying to find his way in his new normal and I have my roots planted in Star Mountain with my family and friends. But going to dinner with this gorgeous man who makes my heart race isn’t an experience I’m willing to miss even if it puts said heart in danger.

“Of course, Ethan.” I look down at the sundress I’m wearing. “Can I go back to my hotel and freshen up first?”

“You look gorgeous just as you are, angel, but of course you can. I’ll walk you back to your hotel and then pick you up,” he glances at his watch, “around seven?”

“Sounds perfect.” That gives me plenty of time to get ready and maybe even call Ivy or Scarlett to check-in.

We slowly make our way back to the hotel. Even though I just met him, and I’ll see him again in a few hours, I don’t want our time together to end. Just being in his presence makes me feel like I’m on cloud nine. This trip was already a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but now that I’ve met Ethan, I can’t imagine another trip ever matching this one.

Chapter 4

Ethan

I am standing outside her hotel door room at ten till seven. I’ve been here for thirty minutes, but I made myself wait until now to come to her door. I can’t wait any longer. I have never been so drawn to a person, and I’m not going to fight these feelings. I want Clara.

The hours we spent just walking through Positano checking out various places on both our lists of things to see and do, the time I spent talking to such an amazing woman, has made this my favorite afternoon in memory. It’s a little unbelievable that two Americans found each other in an alleyway in Italy, but it will be a romantic story to tell our grandchildren someday.

I quickly knock on the door and get a little shock when it immediately opens and there she stands. Earlier, she was a knockout in a simple sundress with her hair pulled back. Now, she’s wearing a short skirt and top with high heels, her hair is down and wavy, and her lips are berry red. I want to devour her. I’ve never been so happy to be wearing a sports coat. It’s hiding the fact that the second I saw her my dick came to full attention, trying to escape and get to her.

“You are so beautiful.”

She blushes, “Thank you, Ethan. You look incredibly handsome.” She grabs her purse and shuts the door.

My body won’t move and she’s watching me with a bit of concern crossing her beautiful eyes. I need to kiss her before we continue this date. I won’t be able to do anything until I feel her against me. She steps closer to me, and I wrap my arm around her waist.

“Are you okay, Ethan?” she whispers.

“I need to kiss you, angel. Is that okay?” I barely get the words out before I lean toward her. I give her just enough time to say no before my lips are on hers and I swear that a hallelujah chorus sings around us.

Clara runs her hands up my arms, over my shoulders, and into my hair. I run my tongue along the seam of her lips, begging for entry. As our kisses turn more feral, my hands start their exploration. My hand glides along her rib cage, up to her breast, and I feel her hard nipple poking through the fabric of her bra and dress.

Clara pulls back from me with a moan, and I try not to grab her back. “We can’t do this in the hallway, Ethan. I think we should go to dinner.” A blush spreads across her face as she touches the corners of her mouth. I instantly want to kiss her again, maybe kiss her forever, but she’s right.

“You’re right. We need to get out of this hallway and go to dinner. I obviously can’t control myself when I’m alone with you.”

Clara giggles, making my whole body feel light and happy. Maybe I’ve found my new plan with a capital P after all – making Clara giggle and feel like the most important and desirable thing in my world every day for the rest of our lives.

Chapter 5

Clara

Dinner is going wonderfully. We are at a restaurant I’ve been dying to try but didn’t want to come to alone. Ethan has been a perfect gentleman since we left the hotel, so why do I feel so itchy? I can’t seem to sit still. Every time I look at him my legs go weak, my shoulders tighten, and my heart beats too fast – not a good combination.

I want to kiss him again. Hell, I want him to take me to bed. His bed, my bed, a spare bed at the back of the kitchen. Any bed will do. I regret not just pulling him into my hotel room and having my way with him there and then. I was trying to do the “right” thing, but all I’ve done is make both of us suffer through this dinner while we’re both thinking about sex and not how good the lobster tastes.

Finally, I can’t do it anymore.
