“Evening Mr Frazer, Ms Walker. I’m here to transport you to your helicopter,” he says, opening the rear door to the car.

Leah pauses, her mouth falling open as she shoots me an incredulous look.

I squeeze her hand before helping her into the car. She looks at me with raised eyebrows as I climb in next to her. I lean in, our heads close together, the jasmine scent of her perfume teasing my senses. I stifle a moan at the memories it invokes, instead whispering in her ear.

“It’s getting late. This negates the thirteen mile drive. We should be at the yacht about ten minutes after take-off. You’ll get to see Monaco and the French Riviera at night from the air. It’s quite something.”

A slight flush tints the skin on her face and neck, and I watch her tongue as it darts out, moistening her lower lip. Leah turns her head, our faces centimetres apart. My gaze drops to her mouth.

The driver’s door slams, pulling us back into the present. We leap apart, my heart racing.

What the hell just happened?

I lock my jaw. This is not the time or place. This weekend is about Leah, about taking time out and giving her the break I feel she desperately needs. She’s asked we remain professional. The past few months has seen our relationship change. We’ve gone from work colleagues to friends and, more recently, lovers. I’m spending more and more time with her in the apartment. This weekend is a change. No external distractions. It’s about creating the child. I turn my head and look out of the window as we travel past the hangers. A child, I find myself wanting more and more.

The car transports us to terminal one, where our helicopter awaits. We’re seen onboard, and I hand Leah a headset, motioning for her to put them on over the chopping sound of the blades. She smiles once the sound is muffled, giving me a thumbs up. Her excitement is palpable, although she’s trying to hide it.

Her hand slides across the seat, gripping mine, and the action is doing strange things in my chest. The helicopter lifts off, and her grip tightens in mine. My stomach drops as the helicopter tilts and sways.

“Whew,” Leah squeals.

I smile when she turns to me, her eyes wide.

“It settles once we’re in the air,” I say, her eyes widening when she realises we can hear each other through the headsets.

“This is amazing,” she says, her eyes going past me to look out of the window at the disappearing ground below.

Once we’ve cleared the airport, the pilot points out some of the sights of the French Riviera on the way to Monaco. The lights twinkle along the beautiful coastline. I never get tired of this sight, but for some reason, tonight seems special. It’s like experiencing it for the first time all over again.

“Gabriel, this is...” Her eyes are wide.

“We’re almost there,” I say, pointing to the landing site in the distance.

“No rush. This is spectacular.” Her voice is breathless.

When we finally land and disembark, Leah is bursting with excitement.

She grabs both my hands in hers. “Thank you,” she says before going up onto her tip toes and dropping a kiss on my cheek. “Thank you.”

I tilt my head, and she smiles. “For the memories. Nothing will ever take these memories away. It’s amazing.”

Her pleasure is humbling. What I take for granted. Leah is so different from the other women I’ve had in my life. My fiancée, Rachel, expected this, while the other women took what they wanted. Our relationships were little more than friends with mutual benefits. A give and take. With Leah, however, I’m finding that I want to give her the world. Show her the world. I know she and Vince travelled, but she’s open to new adventures.

I shake myself.

“Come on, let’s get to the yacht.”

A transfer car is waiting for us.

When the driver closes the door, she turns to face me. My hand touches her cheek. “I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself. This weekend is all about rest and relaxation.”

A flash of colour floods her cheeks, and her pupils dilate. My thumb grazes her bottom lip before I can stop it. “Among other things,” I say before dropping my hand.

We both know the reason I brought her here.

The warmth that spreads through my chest is unexpected, so I push it to one side as the driver pulls out.

The lights of the marina dance over the water, welcoming us. The driver opens the door. The captain and one of the crew are waiting, ready to take our bags.
