“Jesus Christ, Madalina. That man didn’t have to die,” he scolds me, as he starts the engine and quickly pulls away.

DARIO

Idump the car outside the chapel and storm inside, searching through the people gathered here for any sign of her.

“Nicolas!” I call out to her brother, pushing through the bodies that are in my way and grabbing the lapels of his suit.

“Where’s your sister?” I don’t care if I’m attracting attention. I need to know where she is right now.

“She went to speak with the bride. Vito’s with her.” He looks back at me as if I’m crazy. “Chill the fuck out.”

He shoves me off him and as much as I want to snap his neck for his disrespect, I have bigger things to worry about.

“It was Cassio! He’sthe one who caused the accident she was in.” I grip him by the throat and smash him up against one of the pillars to ensure he’s paying attention.

“That’s impossible, he was there at the scene. He helped her,” Serena whispers, trying her best to calm the situation.

“The gun that was used to shoot Lucian was very unique, and I gifted him that gun on his eighteenth birthday. I’m not saying he did it, but he orchestrated it. That sick fuck was going to kill my wife with a gun I gave to him.” I drop Nicolas from my grasp and storm off to search for my wife.

“Where is she?” I see Vito standing outside one of the dressing rooms.

“She’s with your brother, sir,” he assures me, oblivious to what's going on and when I barge through the door and see the back door swinging in the breeze, I race toward it.

“Fuck!” I stare at the dead man on the floor, then turn to look at Vito. “How thefuckdid someone get shot without you hearing it?” I yell as I drag my hands through my hair. He’s got her. Cassio tried to have Madalina killed and now he’s fucking got her.

“I swear, I heard nothing.” Vito looks panicked as he drops to his knees and checks my father’s guard’s vitals. It seems unnecessary given the huge fucking hole that’s in the front of his head.

“He’s got her,” I repeat the words that are going round and round in my head out loud as I rush back through to the chapel.

“What’s going on?” Gabriella stands in my way.

“Move,” I tell her.

“Not until you tell me what's going on.” She crosses her arms over her chest.

“Dario. There's no sign of her, anywhere!” Nicolas interrupts when he comes racing down the corridor.

“She’s gone. Cassio’s taken her,” I tell him, feeling all control slip away from me.

“Cassio?” Gabriella looks stunned. “But it’s our wedding day. He’s marrying me.”

“Shut up!” We both yell at her in unison.

“I need to find her.” My chest is compressing making it hard to breathe and my head is spinning so fast I can’t think straight.

“Where would he have taken her?” Nicolas looks ready to tear heads off, and when I see my father at the other end of the corridor, I charge at him and slam his body into the wall.

“Cassio did this! He’syour blackmailer. Where would he have taken her?” I swear if he doesn’t give me an answer I’ll fucking end him, right here in front of every man who respects him. I don’t care that there are witnesses, all that matters to me is finding my wife.

“I don’t know, son. I swear.” His eyes tell me he’s being honest so I release him and growl in frustration.

“He won’t have gone back to his place, he knows that I’d come after him. He must have planned this.” I shake my head as I try to piece everything together.

“He was your blackmailer.” I look back to my father. “He was making those threats to you and knew you’d never give into them. He counted on you telling me before the wedding so he could separate me from Madalina.” I scrub my hand over my face, trying to think of where he might have taken her.

“I don't know where he is. How the fuckcan I protect her if I don’t know where she is?” I shake my head, not caring how weak and helpless I sound.

“I know where he is.” A tiny voice comes from behind me and when I turn around and see Serena looking back at me, I stare at her in confusion.
