“Wait.” I push my hand into his chest. “Should we…I…I mean is it safe?” I don’t know why that seems so important, I never wanted the baby that’s growing inside me, and the fact I feel the need to protect it suddenly feels overwhelming.

“I’ll be careful. And it’s perfectly safe, I already checked,” he assures me, with a hint of a smile on his face that isn’t clever or smug. “I would never do anything to hurt you or our baby. You should know that.” Grabbing my chin, he makes sure I know he means it. “I want to be inside you. I meant what I said last night. I really did miss you. I’ve craved this body so much while I’ve been away.” There's something in the way he’s looking at me that makes me believe him. “And you may hate me right now, but you know I can make you feel good.”

I’m so angry at him, and yet I know he’s right.

I nod my head, and as he slowly pushes his cock inside me, I feel that relief flush all my anger away. With his hand still cupped around my jaw, I feel the tension in his fingers as he fucks me with slow, gentle thrusts of his hips that seem so different from any of the times before. If I didn’t know theman better I’d think it was his way of saying sorry. Not that I’d accept it, what Dario has done is unforgivable.

“You are going to let me take care of you, now. No more stupid rebellions. No more threats to leave. I don’t want to keep you in chains,” he whispers, and I nod, figuring that the best way for me to escape all this is to make him think he’s won. The same way he did to me.

“Good girl.” He slides his hand between us and gently strokes my clit, ensuring that I come for him a second time before his body stiffens and he growls out his own release.

He lifts his head from where it’s fallen into my neck and I swear I see a little adoration in his eyes when he smiles at me.

“Let’s get you more comfortable.” He reaches inside his gym shorts and takes out a key so he can release the shackles from my wrists.

“You need to sleep.” He kisses my forehead, surprising me when he pulls back the covers on the bed and climbs in beside me. His arm wraps around me, pulls me tight to his body, and rests his chin on my shoulder. “Everything will be okay now,” he whispers, sliding his palm over my stomach protectively, and while he drifts off to sleep I lie awake and assess the risks of playing Dario DeMarco at his own game.

DARIO

“I’m fine, just give me some space.” Madalina holds her hand up to stop me from coming any closer, she’s on her knees vomiting into the toilet and making it very clear she doesn’t want me near her.

“I’ll get you some water.” I take the glass that's next to the basin and fill it, passing it down to her, and after sweeping her hair over to one side of her neck, she takes it from me and takes a sip.

“I’m sorry that you are suffering,” I tell her, truly meaning it but the look she gives me back proves she doesn’t believe me.

“Just not sorry for what you did.” She smiles sarcastically as she gets back on her feet and heads to the basin to splash some water on her face.

“We have a doctor's appointment today, we can ask if there's anything he can do for the sickness.” I continue trying to be nice. I appreciate that what I’ve done has upset her, but we must move on from that and focus on what's important.

“I don’t need a doctor, Dario. We know what's wrong with me.” She glares at me through her reflection as she brushes her teeth.

“Of course, you need a doctor, all pregnant women needprofessional care. I have arranged for you to have the best. And we need to find out how pregnant you actually are,” I remind her, sliding my hand around her waist and thinking about the child I have successfully put inside her.

It’s hard to keep my hands off her now I know for sure that she’s pregnant. I knew it would turn me the fuck on, but I could never have predicted the territorial urges I feel toward her now. I don’t want to let the girl out of my sight for a second.

“I’d say very pregnant, considering I haven't had a period since we’ve been married and I’m throwing up at 7 am.” She offers me a sarcastic grin around a mouth full of foam. It makes me want to bend her over this basin unit and fuck her till she cries.

“Come on, get dressed, I’ll have Greta make you pancakes. They're your favorite.”

“Wait, how do you know they’re my favorite? Greta has never made them for me before.” She stares at me curiously, which is a pleasant change from the hatred I’ve been getting for the past twenty-four hours.

“I am your husband, it is my business to know these things.” I smile at her before kissing her cheek and heading down to breakfast.

“You have guards standing on my door” She marches into the dining room fifteen minutes later, looking just as pissed as she did yesterday.

“I have guards onourdoor,” I correct her.

“What?”

“Our room. I can’t take care of you if I’m down the hall.” I pour her a juice and place it next to the space that's been laid out for her at the table.

“Can you just stop acting like all this is normal?” She grips her hair in her fists out of frustration.

“Madalina, you must calm down, stress is not good for the baby, I remind her, tapping the chair and willing her to take a seat.

“Grrrrrrr!” She narrows her eyes but still does as she’s told and sits herself down.

“There are guards all over the house. I warned you that being married to me came with its risks, now that you carry my heir I must ensure you are both safe,” I try to pacify her.
