“She told me about losing her parents.” I swipe the rough fabric over my face. “I was shocked to hear who her dad was.”
He arches an eyebrow. “You did make a lot of progress. She doesn’t talk a lot about her past. Isabella says she’s too smart to be her assistant, but she’s not planning to push her into something else. She enjoys working with her.”
“She’s got more substance than Madyson could ever hope to have.”
“You aren’t lying there. You aren’t going to find Saylor sucking off your driver.”
“I agree.” I wince at the ridiculousness of my past girlfriend picking skills. I need my head examined. “Has Isabella said if she’s dating anyone?”
“Not that I know of.” His eyes widen, and he rests his hands on his hips. “Hey, Isabella is inviting her to come over to our house on Thursday night. You should come over. It’s a simple get-together with Gunner, Dillon, Devin, and the girls. It would give you the chance to talk to her again and ask her out.”
“That would be great.” It took me three months to get her alone, and waiting another three months was out of the question. “I would’ve asked her out today, but Madyson called as I was getting ready to. As always, she has impeccably bad timing.”
“What did she want?”
“She had the nerve to ask me to get her tickets to the game.”
He whistles. “She’s ballsy.”
“I hung up on her. I’m not getting her tickets to anything. I’m guessing she’s trying to impress some guy, or she’s hoping to use it as an opportunity to get her claws into another player. I’m not participating in ruining another guy’s life by helping her to hook-up with someone else.”
“I can’t blame you for that.” He cuffs my shoulder. “We need to get back to work. Your break to try and entice my wife’s assistant has put you behind.”
“It was worth it.” An idea floats through my head. Everyone else that’s going to be at Liam and Isabella’s place is a couple. Maybe a little matchmaking in the form of some strategically placed mistletoe magic could help me secure that first date.
