By the door she hesitated, “I will meet you here again? Later?”

I tilted my head, scrutinized her, not understanding her sudden meekness.

“A dragoon will be with you at all times.” I assured her. “He will guard and guide you. There will be another feast tonight, where I will see you.”

She looked so insecure standing there, that I hesitated to leave. Something was on her mind, but for the life of me I couldn’t figure out what.

“I…” she looked down, bit on her lip. Where had my feisty seffy gone? The one that pushed out her claws at any given opportunity.

The door to the bathroom opened, one of us must have left the light on inside, because suddenly it shone on her with a brightening intensity. So bright, I had to narrow my eyes not to be blinded.

Impossibly, rays of light highlighted her figure clad in the ridiculous bedsheet, caught the gold of her hair, making her shine like a goddess.

Fraysa!

Impossible.

And yet.

My mouth opened and closed at the realization that Fraysa herself was showing me my querilly. How had I not known sooner?

“Mine,” I growled, and then louder, “MINE!”

“Myles?” Alarmed Niara’s head lifted large, grey eyes stared at me.

I reached her side with two large steps, impossibly, the light around her became even brighter.

Niara, I thought.

My fated mate. The one I searched for in every one of my lives. The one that would complete it.

Niara was the seffy who had always been at my side throughout our many reincarnations.

Mine to protect.

Mine to shelter.

Mine to provide for.

Mine to give my life to.

Shocked, enthralled and in utter delight, I took Niara’s hands in mine, falling on one knee in front of her.

“Myles?” Confusion was written all over her face. I doubted she had any idea of the significance of what was happening, what I was doing. She had been born in the Leandar system, zyn, but she wasn’t a Leandar. These things were told from mother to daughter, from father to son.

In this case I would have to guide her and my heart rejoiced with the responsibility of it. She was mine.

For some odd reason the gods had chosen to bring my beloved back in human form in this life and I would not argue with Fraysa’s wisdom. The gods had plans for each of us, for every one of our many lives.

I didn’t think that Niara knew that a vissigroth only bowed twice in his life. Once to his susserayn to receive the honor of having the title of vissigroth formerly bestowed upon him and the second time only to his fated mate.

I lowered myself on one knee and placed one of Niara’s hands on top of my head.

As if under a spell herself, Niara bent forward, placed her free hand over my erratically beating heart. I bowed my head in utter submission to her. My querilly. Completing one of the sacred three binding ceremonies. One of the two only done in private between a male and his querilly.

She was my light, my life. My soul and my heart. This was the submission ceremony. First the male submitted. Then the seffy.

I lifted my head and our eyes met, hers were still wide and confused, even though, something seemed to rear inside her, making her remember things she shouldn’t have even known as a human.
