The girl nodded, then dropped her gaze to Liberty. “I didn’t mean anything by it,” she said. “You’re pregnant, but you look like that, so I figured you were a dancer. The whole fantasy vibe, you know. Hot, sexy pregnant woman.”

Liberty laughed, and I tightened my hold on her. I loved that sound.

“Thanks, I think.”

The girl nodded.

“This sexy pregnant woman is my fantasy only.”

“Yes, sir,” she muttered, then hurried away.

Liberty turned in my arms, and I took the iPad from her, then placed it on the bar so I could have her closer before kissing her mouth the way I wanted to. She sighed and leaned into me the best she could with our son between us. I felt the kick just as her tongue flicked against mine.

She chuckled and leaned back. “He’s aggressive. Doesn’t like to share.”

I placed a hand over her to feel him kicking and moving around inside. “He looks just like you, so guess he’s gonna act like me.”

“Yeah,” she agreed. “Maybe he could switch the two before he’s born.”

Tex placed a bottle of tequila on the bar across from us. “Nah, you’re a helluva lot prettier than his ugly mug, and the world needs another Liam running around. Judgment’s gotta have another Prez when this one gets old.”

Liberty turned her eyes back to me.

Fate was a funny thing. Life threw you a lot of bad shit, testing you, seeing just what you could survive. Then, when you thought that was all there was on the road you were meant to walk, fate tossed you the gold medal for surviving so long. You just had to keep walking it and hope you didn’t fuck it up when your prize was handed out.

“You got this, darlin’. Just push one more time,” Liam said, holding my hand beside me while my nails bit into his flesh.

“If you say that again, I’m going to hit you with the closest thing I can reach,” I warned him through clenched teeth.

He grinned, then winked at me. That wasn’t gonna work this time. Not when my body was being split in two.

“He’s right; just one more push,” the doctor encouraged.

She’d better watch it, or I was gonna hit her too. I had been pushing for an hour.

“Think about his little face,” Liam whispered close to my ear.

Okay. He was right. I wanted to see that face. Hold him. I nodded closing my eyes tightly then gave it one more push, focusing on how it would feel to finally have him in my arms.

“There he is. Keep on going. You got it!” the doctor told me.

I opened my eyes and gave it everything I had left. The doctor stood up, holding a tiny red body with arms and legs stretched out as a cry filled the room.

“There he is.” Liam’s voice sounded thick with emotion. He kissed my head and sucked in a deep breath. “Thank you.”

The nurse handed Liam the scissors for him to cut the umbilical cord, and I laughed through my tears, watching him.

Then, I held out my arms, and our son was placed in them. He stopped crying and frowned up at me.

“Hey, little guy,” I said with a teary smile as I took him in. “I’m your mommy.” I looked up at Liam as he watched us, one lone tear rolling down his face. “And the big, tough, emotional man beside me is your daddy.”

A grin tugged at Liam’s mouth, and he laughed as he wiped the tear away.

“You are so very loved,” I told him as his little hand grasped my finger. “I can’t wait until Ozzy sees you. You’ve already got a best friend waiting at home.”
