Hugo nodded.

I turned my attention to the other stranger in my home. "I'll be honest here. I don't know you, so I don't know if I can trust you. Alejandro seems to, so that is good enough for me, but be warned, if you try anything, I have no problem putting a bullet in your head."

Instead of being insulted as I thought he would, Marcus chuckled. "You make a good Pequeña Jefa."

I lifted an eyebrow, which seemed to amuse Marcus even more.

"That is what your position has always been called. I'm afraid I am not sure what it is called if you are a man."

I waved a dismissive hand. I had been called worse.

"Might I suggest Pequeño Jefe, sir?" Hugo suggested.

Little boss?

I'd take it.

"If it is alright with you," Marcus stated, "I would like to stick around and see how all of this plays out. I want to make sure Alejandro recovers and is able to retain his control over Brooklyn. I think he will be good in that position."

Yeah, whatever.

"That's fine, but until he is back on his feet..."

"I understand completely, Pequeño Jefe." Marcus's smile spread just a little wider. "You are in charge."

Oh yay. I was in charge of the mafia.

Not how I saw my life going.

I started to rub my hands over my face only to realize that they were covered in blood. I wasn't sure if it was my blood or Alejandro's blood. It really didn't matter. I was getting tired of that color.

"Someone get me something to wipe my hands off with."

"Si, Pequeño Jefe."

Oh, this was going to be fun.

"I need to go speak with my grandfather."

"Can you allow me to treat your arm first?" Hugo asked. "It will do us no good if you pass out from blood loss."

I grimaced as I glanced down at my arm. It was really just a flesh wound, but it was bleeding as if I had cut a main vein. "Just hurry."

Hugo barked out some orders to one of our men and the guy hurried off, heading upstairs. "Sir, why don't you come sit down? I'll get the cook to make you something to eat."

"To be honest, I don't think I can eat anything right now, but some orange juice would be good." I needed to have something in my stomach and my blood sugar was practically non-existent right now.

"Let's go sit down in the dining room while we wait for Hector to come back with the first aid kit."

I nodded as I started in that direction. "Get some coffee for Marcus."

"Si, Pequeño Jefe."

Oh, boy.

"Have you gotten a hold of Vinnie yet?" I asked.

That call was important.
