What I hadn't expected was the sight of one of my guards hovering over the top of Delancy, protecting him from my grandfather. I was even less thrilled with the sight of blood dripping down Delancy's arm.

"What the hell is going on in here?" I snapped as I stormed forward. "Put that gun away before I make you eat it."

My grandfather reared back. "You can't talk to me like that."

"I just did." I stopped next to Delancy and squatted down. "Querido?"

Pale sea foam green eyes glistening with tears peeked up at me. They were filled with pain and fear, two things I never wanted to see on Delancy's face.

I paid no attention to my grandfather as I grabbed Delancy as gently as I could and pulled him into my arms. It didn't take more than a glance to locate where all the blood was coming from. Delancy had a good-sized bullet wound in his arm.

"Are you okay, Delancy?"

Delancy nodded, but I knew he wasn't okay despite his words. He was bleeding all over our marble tiles.

I glared up at my grandfather, the only one in the room with a gun in his hand. "Hugo, call the police," I said without looking away from the man.

"Jefe?"

"Let them know that the grandfather of the man that just attacked my husband broke into our home and shot him. We will also need an ambulance for Delancy."

"Si, Jefe."

"When you are done with that, make a copy of the surveillance from the foray. I'm sure the police will want it." I narrowed my eyes. "It will be easier to convict him of attempted murder if it's all on tape."

For once, I was going to use the law in my favor.

"You can't call the police on me!"

"What delusional world are you living in, Grandfather? Or maybe I should call you Don Roberto. That is what you always told me to call you, isn't it? Don Roberto? The big bad mafia don?"

I relished the way the man's nostrils flared, a sure sign that he was pissed. I just didn't fucking care.

I was getting really tired of having a target on my back. How was I supposed to build a life with Delancy when someone was always trying to kill me? At this rate, the police were going to stop believing the story we had spun for them and start looking at me as the bad guy.

Maybe that was part of my grandfather's plan all along.

I lifted Delancy to his feet as I stood and then gently placed him behind me. I was armed, but I wasn't ready to pull my gun just yet. I really didn't want to have to shoot my grandfather if I didn't have to.

I had no emotional ties to the man other than years of hatred, but he was still my grandfather. It was bad enough that I had a connection to Dante. If I shot my grandfather and the police got wind of that connection, I would have a hard time talking my way out of jail time.

"It's time for you to leave, Don Roberto. This is private property."

"I have every right to be here!"

"In case you forgot, Brooklyn is run by me, and I specifically remember telling you that you do not have my permission to come into my territory. That means you have no right to be here."

I was pretty sure I was seeing steam come out of my grandfather's ears. I half expected him to stomp his foot. I had never talked back to him, so I could understand his shock and anger. In his little world, no one talked back to him, especially not the illegitimate bastard abomination his son had fathered.

"Brooklyn still belongs to me," my grandfather argued. "It will always belong to me."

"Actually," someone behind me said, "Brooklyn belongs to Alejandro. You signed it over to him. As such, he gets to make the rules here. He also gets to say who comes into his territory and who does not, and I believe he said you could not."

I saw an older man step up beside me out of the corner of my eye. I wanted to look to confirm that it was Marcus, but I refused to take my eyes off of my grandfather, or the gun that he had in his hand.

"Marcus?" my grandfather whispered, clearly stunned if the wide eyes were anything to go by. "What are you doing here?"

"I flew in yesterday," Marcus replied. "I had a few things I needed to settle with Alejandro."
