That was my take on it.

"I'm hoping you guys can help me out with that," I said. "The terms of my agreement with my grandfather state that I have to marry Delancy and stay married to him. I also have to send money home every quarter. If I fail to do any of this, I get called back to Columbia, and I am sure you can guess what happens then."

"He gets to take you out and Spain can't do anything about it."

I nodded at Jake's statement. "I believe that is the plan. It's just too bad for my grandfather that I refuse to agree to that plan. I'm going to marry Delancy and take over Brooklyn, and I'm going to keep both."

I just needed to figure out how to do that.

"So, like I said," Joe said. "How can we help?"

"Martinez works predominantly with drugs and prostitution. I want to get away from that, but I'm not sure how. I still have to make enough to send money back to my grandfather every quarter. You all know New York better than I do. How can I make enough money to keep my grandfather off my back and out of my business?"

I didn't know what to think of the look Jake gave the others.

I frowned as I looked at each of them. "What?"

"I might have an idea," Jake said, "but I need to make a phone call first."

"Is this a good idea, Jake?" Joe asked as if he knew who Jake was going to call.

Jake snorted as he started to slide out of the booth. "Probably not."

I watched him walk away before glancing back at the others. "Who is he calling?"

Lucas grimaced. "My bet? Vinnie Borelli."

I knew that name. At least, I knew the Borelli name. Vinnie escaped me. "Who is Vinnie Borelli?"

"He's the current head of the Italian mafia here in New York City," Lucas explained. "He has been running Manhattan for the last few years while his grandfather is in Italy."

My eyebrows lifted in surprise. "And Jake has him on speed dial?"

Lucas winced. "He's not the only one."

My jaw nearly hit my chest. "What have you all been up to since I've been gone?"

I knew these men were all tops in their fields, but did that mean they were involved in the mafia?

"Jake had a run-in with Carlos Borelli when he married his husband," Miles said. "That's how he knows the Borellis. Vinnie Borelli also helped us out with some information when I married Sam."

"We've had a few other interactions with Vinnie Borelli and Dmitri Petrov, who runs the Russians out of the Bronx. Both of them owe Jake a favor. I think he's calling them in now."

Damn.

"Remember that call Jake gave you awhile back about those trackers of his?" Miles asked.

I nodded.

"That was about Darla, Sam's ex-fiancée. She had gotten her hands on some of them and was going to use their honeymoon to hand them over to someone in Columbia. Jake called to find out if it was you."

"As far as I know it wasn't," I replied, "but my grandfather saw me as a lap dog. He didn't always talk to me about things going on. I can honestly say I never heard word of it, not even in passing."

"Well, someone down there wanted them. If it wasn't you guys, then it was someone else, someone that we suspect wanted to use them to pass drugs over the border. Darla's father owned a shipping company and planned to use that to help ship in the drugs."

"Shipping!" Joe suddenly shouted. "That's what you need to get into."

"Huh?"
