The auburn hair was a surprise. The dossier stated that Delancy's family background was French, but he looked more Irish than anything. His hair was also short and in many of the pictures and videos of him that I had seen, he kept it parted to one side and cut above his ears.

There was one picture where it was all over the place, but he had been in a bar brawl, so it was kind of expected.

I remember watching several of his videos and I knew he was in good physical condition. He seemed to do a lot of extreme sports, everything from paragliding to motorcycle racing. You had to be in good shape for that.

He was a good-looking man. I could see why he was in the limelight so much. Cameras loved him. From the videos, it looked as if everyone else did as well. Kind of had me a little worried if my future spouse was going to stay faithful to me and our marriage vows.

I could just imagine the phone call I would get from my grandfather if word reached him that Delancy had had an affair. I would never hear the end of it. I would need to do something to make sure that didn't happen.

Locking him away on my estate was looking pretty damn good.

I closed the dossier and slid it into my briefcase. It wasn't like I was going to learn anything from it anyway.

"Did you get a list of how many security personnel there are at the house from Martinez?"

Hugo nodded before grabbing his tablet. "Several of the guards will be leaving with Martinez, so it would probably be a good idea for us to interview for more. I don't want us to be left without enough security if there is a problem."

That was a pretty good idea, but solving this issue might be impossible. I was here to take over the territory of another leader. The passing over of power was not always peaceful.

"Over the next few days, I want you to nose round a bit, see who might be loyal to us and who is loyal to Martinez and my grandfather. I don't want someone stabbing me in the back somewhere down the line."

"I can do that."

"We have less than ten days to get our feet under us. Once I marry Delancy and have those papers in hand, Martinez will be leaving and then we're on our own. Whatever we do from there will make or break us."

"I've actually been giving that some thought. Martinez runs a lot of drugs and brothels. I'm not sure that is a good way for us to go if we want to stay off the radar."

I lifted an eyebrow as I turned to look at Hugo. "You do remember that we have a quota we have to meet every quarter, right?" If we didn't send that money to my grandfather, he would use that as a means to take Brooklyn back from me.

"I do," Hugo stated, "but I think we need to look into other ways to make money. The authorities have really been cracking down on these things as of late, and with you being from Columbia, they are going to automatically assume you are running drugs. If we can distance ourselves from that, I think it will be better in the long run."

He wasn't wrong.

"I think we're also going to have to do something to show people that they shouldn't come after us," Hugo continued. "A show of power or something. Something to let people know not to fuck with us."

Again, he wasn't wrong.

"We're supposed to be meeting Jake and the others here in a little while. We can discuss it with them. They know New York City better than we do. I'm sure they can help us come up with something."

"I hope so or our goose is cooked."

I gave Hugo a sharper look. "Have you heard something?"

"Nothing concrete. It's more what I have observed."

"Tell me."

"It doesn't feel like Martinez is leaving for good. It's more like he's going on vacation. It's nothing I can put my finger on, but that is what it feels like."

That would be bad, but it would also explain a lot.

"Do you think this is all part of the set-up?"

"How so?"

"Well, think about it. We already suspect that my grandfather is only doing this to get rid of me and fulfill that promise he made to his old war buddy. He can't just put a bullet in my brain. The families back home and in Spain wouldn't agree with that, so he has to find some other way to get rid of me, some way that it won't come back on him."

"So, offering you Brooklyn is what he came up with?"
